Description: django's is a locally owned restaurant at the base of Mt. Crested Butte, gaining national attention for its seasonal menu of globally inspired small plates. This culinary adventure offers a fun dining experience best shared with friends: the plates are brought one at a time, for everyone to taste up to 25 different selections on the weekly menu. The wines are served by quartino (250ml) carafe, to allow for pairing and sampling across an extensive list focused on European and South American wines. The interior is elegant yet casual, offering seating in booths or banquettes, at low or high tables, and at the dining bar overlooking the kitchen. If you prefer dining outdoors, grab a table on the courtyard patio, where you'll hear live music on Thursdays.

“Favorite Spot!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013 via mobile

If you want interesting beer, wine, and cocktails to go with amazing, original small plates, this is your spot. We have been here many times before and have never been disappointed. They have introduced me to many wines that I have never seen anywhere else. It's like no other place in Crested Butte.

“So hard to decide which was our favorite!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

Reservations necessary even in the summer...Three of us had dinner at Django's last week and even with ample wine the bill was reasonable. We were going to choose 3 items each, but as they are served one at a time we realized we were quite full after just 5 or 6 (total) selections. The tables are pretty close together, but it actually makes it kind of fun to see what other people are eating. I wish I lived closer, I'd be a regular.

“Best Tapas this side of Spain”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

Had a great tapas meal at the base of the ski resort. Glad we made reservations early, as it was packed and only 4 days before the end of the ski season. I can't imagine it during prime vacation time. Wine selection and the ever changing tapas choices make it the best food in Crested Butte, and we've tried 6 or 7 different places both in old town and at Mt. Crested Butte during our 3 visits there. Anytime you walk into a restaurant and they give you their daily hand typed specials, it's a good start !!!

“Going downhill”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

We have eaten at Djangos since it opened. They used to have delicious brussel sprouts, but they changed something. They now have more sauce and were over salted. Really what is up with the salt! I can make better ones at home with good olive oil. The Steak Frites were excellent but the thinly sliced french fries on top were silly. How about some baby potatoes?

The lack of good American (e.g., Colorado) brews is just dumb (see the review about no American wines). The UK beers are flat and shellac-like, good if your 75 and have no taste buds I suppose.

Chris not working the floor changes the atmosphere of the place.

We won't be going back this summer and probably not next summer.

Thanks for joining us for dinner this summer. It's nice to be missed! But I'm sorry to hear you weren't a fan of the brussels sprouts this visit. Since you've dined with us over the years, you know we'd happily replace a plate for you, if it wasn't prepared exactly as you like or remember. We might have been heavy on the salt/sauce when you came in, so we'll keep an eye on that. We're glad you liked the steak frites. As you know, we change our menu items seasonally, so you're likely to see a different preparation the next time you visit, and we appreciate your suggestion to change the potatoes.

But don't worry, we're not going downhill! In fact, we're having our busiest season ever, and we wish your recent visit had been more enjoyable. In fact, I'd be happy to order a specific beer for you, if you are interested in Colorado craft brews. We only have space for about 12 beers in our backbar fridge, and to offer variety from other restaurants we have selected beers from Belgium, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Spain and the UK. The same approach was taken on our wine list: since we can only offer 100 of the world's many, many wines, we focus on a list from southern Europe that most of our guests would otherwise not get to try elsewhere.

I hope we have a chance to see you again. It's disheartening to hear a frequent guest refer to something we offer as "silly" and "dumb", but thank you for sharing those thoughts. We take all feedback and comments to heart and consider how we can make things better every season, for every guest.

Chris

“Great format and excellent food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

Wonderful dinner in full view of the kitchen. Food was superb and the small plate, linear delivery fostered a great vibe at the table. Staff, both servers and food preparers (including the chef) were friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The brussel sprouts really are fantastic, as well as the lamb, flat breads and salads. The mushroom special was really unusual and delicious. Wine delivered in quartinos from a nice selection and the small size allowed sampling multiples without inflating the bill. Overall, we had a very memorable meal and enthusiastically recommend Django's.

We're so glad you enjoyed your experience! It can be fun to sit along the banquettes near the kitchen - especially on a busy Saturday night. I hope we'll see you again, the next time you visit CB. Just mention the 'sweetheart tables' and we'll reserve a similar table for you.
