“Clean and Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2014

The hotel was very clean and nice. The value was great. I paid $72 per night and the amentities compared to a Holiday Inn where you would pay $130 or more. The breakfast was good and free. Free Wi-Fi too.

First Impression
As others have mentioned, the lobby area is a pretty atrium, with live trees and fountains, a comfy lounge-ish area with fireplace, and seating for the extensive breakfast buffet...oh, and, of course the indoor pool. Location is very convenient to the interstate, shopping, restaurants, and the Air Force Academy.

The property is a bit older ('80s?), and it shows in some aspects (furniture, lighting, elevator), but the friendliness of the staff helps make up for it. However, I do wish the friendly staff had asked the (absent?) parents to keep a better eye on their kids running wild (LITERALLY doing flips off the furniture, in one case, and squirting us with pumped-up squirt guns from the pool in another) as we sat in the fireplace/seating area (i.e., NOT in the pool area). It should be possible to let kids have fun and be kids while still respecting other guests. I think both the staff and the parents should share in the responsibility for this one.

Breakfast
We looked forward to the breakfast and, while certainly better than some places (made-to-order omelets!), it wasn't quite as amazing as some reviewers led us to believe (frozen processed potatoes, salsa from a jar, etc.), but "free" helps :) It was good to see a loaf of gluten-free bread off to the side for toast. Again, the breakfast staff was very friendly. We ended up eating in the lounge area because there weren't enough breakfast tables.

The Room
Unfortunately, there was a strong smell of mildew in our bathroom--stronger after a shower--as well as a faint BO smell in the room. Generally this is a deal-breaker for me, and would have resulted in a "poor" rating if the other aspects hadn't helped balance it out (for example, the TV was oddly big and new, and we could sort of see the mountains past the hotel next door). If we had been staying longer than two nights (and hadn't had a special discount deal) we would have switched rooms immediately.

So, depending on the room you get and the ratio of kids-to-responsible-adults in the lobby, you may have a better experience than we did. Not sure if we'd go back, definitely wouldn't pay full price.

Room Tip: If you're sensitive, you may want to sniff for mildew before you settle into your room.

The breakfast selection was one of the best we've experienced. The staff was effiecient and friendly. Just need to keep the plates stocked. The room was comfortable. However, the a/c was noisy and difficult to control. Our room was not cleaned until after 4:00 each day and 2 of 4 days we had to ask for the correct number and type of towels. Make-up spills on the bathroom floor indicated the floor had not been mopped prior to our arrival.

I would recommend staying here if you are a family. Not luxurious by any means, but fun for kids to run around and adults can enjoy a drink from the bar and still watch their kids swim or run around. The pool was nice, but the hot tub was out in the scorching sunlight and no shade... it needs to be inside in the pool area. I liked the coupons that were given upon check-in. For the most part my room was clean, wi-fi was free and fast, awesome TV channels! My bed was the only downside to the stay, it was like sleeping on a board with sheets over it. I was not in the tower, which I guess over there the beds are better. The hotel needs to upgrade the beds in the older area. Staff was friendly except the bartender in the bar. He was grumpy each night he waited on me, maybe he should consider a different line of work...Otherwise, pleasant experience.

Room Tip: Ask to be in the tower...I heard the beds are better there. I was in the old section of the hotel a...

Check-in: The guy in the front was very friendly and courteous; he was helpful for just about everything. Deserves to win "Most Respectful/Respectable 2014" award, hands down.

Room: A lot of points deserve to be docked in this department. Our room had a giant cover on the window, which can be manually moved to the side, but still gave the sense of shadiness and uncleanliness. Speaking of uncleanliness, one of the bins had a used diaper, but thankfully management took care of it well.

Amenities: There's a swimming pool (trust me, you won't miss it when you walk in to check-in) and a few more places, but all we really used that night was wifi and the TV, both functional.

Breakfast: If I list all the food there, it would probably crash the site. All I will say is that the omelettes are to die for, along with most of the food offered there.

Notes: A lot of points were to be docked room-wise, but the breakfast recovered most of the points. Good food at the start of a morning can really turn a frown upside down! In the end, this isn't exactly hotel quality, but definitely worth to check out.

I loved the pictures on the internet. i guess my expectations were too high. the biggest problem was that we had no housekeeping service over the weekend (almost 3 days). our stay was 8 nights. we called for towels, and although the front desk promised to relay our request to housekeeping, the towels never appeared. I called several times, every time with a promise from the front desk, but the room was not cleaned until late Monday after I talked to the housekeeper herself in the hall.
The pool was cloudy and heavily used.
Also, we ate at Falcon's the hotel's restaurant, two nights in a row. the second night I had the pasta special. the sauce for the pasta was the tomato basil soup from the night before!
The breakfast was pretty good, with many choices.

Room Tip: The Mountain View Dream room we had did have a good view - to the right. the view to the left was a...
