If you stop by, make sure to sit in the lounge area. When you sit there, you can choose between the lounge menu and the dinning room menu. The menus change by month and season.
Let me start by saying that the people and the service were great. We had been out all day seeing sights and didn't want to change to go eat. So, we gave them a call to see what the 'dress code' was. We were assured that we were fine and to come on down. They had a table ready for us when we got there and addressed us by name. If the rating was for this and the service, they would have been at 5.
Getting to the food. We had a party of three and started with the crab claws. Not bad. Lacked a little flavor that would have been expected. Entree's were: almond crusted salmon (on their menu for 13 years), grilled pork loin, and the filet mignon. The salmon was not bad, maybe just a tad on the sweet side. The highlight of the pork loin was the peach salsa that was almost like a pico de gallo with peaches. The highlight of the filet dish was a flash fried mushroom risotto. Both the pork and filet were overcooked and on the dry side.
We closed with desserts that were pretty good. On the table was cheesecake ice cream, a layered ice cream they call corleone, and a creme brulee. Nothing bad about these items. The ice creams were good and definitely unique. The creme brulee was solid but not a stand-out.
From a dining experience, the food presentation was very good, it just didn't deliver what would have been expected from the presentation. See my review for Sushi Den in Denver. If you compare the total bills for each of these experiences, the cost was about the same. But when you compare what we came away with in the total dining experience, Blue Star was not even in the same league. We all agreed that we were glad for the experience but would not go here again if we are in the area.
I will insert one caveat. Our entrees were very long in coming out. That to me would indicate that they were having some problems in the kitchen. So, perhaps if you catch them on a good day, your experience would differ. However, at this price point, they should be delivering consistently high quality food with outstanding attention to detail.
