May 13th 2007....I had the brilliant idea to take my Mom (she is 80 this month as well!) to a "special" place for Mothers Day..little did
I know that what was about to happen was not only the absolute WORST dining experience in my life but it was an embarrassment to us as well. To make matters worse we could have accepted an invitation to have dinner at the Broadmoor's Lake Terrace Dining Room!
We had a reservation made at The Blue Star for 12:15. I called to
"RECONFIRM" that reservation not only three days in advance but the morning of the reservation as well. I was told that the manager wanted to know if we would be so kind as to "push" our reservation back to 12:30. Being the "nice guy" that I am I graciously said yes perhaps thinking (and so wrongly so) that this action would garner us some special attention. At least we would not need to wait...WRONG!
This is where the story gets bad..real bad....we were kept waiting for 45 MINUTES! And that was on a reservation made three weeks in advance and even pushed back 15 minutes as I said! On top of this the hostess was completely uncaring in her attitude and manner towards us. She said MANY times that the table was being cleared and that we would be seated soon. She disappeared for 30 minutes at one point. Now at this point if it had not been Mothers Day and had we not had several other people with us, including my Mom and Dad (remember 80 years old..God Bless Her!), we would have walked out. Mothers Day leaves very few options as we all know... so..
We elected to stay there...finally our table was ready. Instead of a manger coming to our table to greet us we got a very hurried and inconsiderate waiter who acted as if we had to order and sit down ASAP or he would not be back! He not only got many drink items wrong he forgot many of them and, as with the hostess, was more absent than visible. He served us coffee that tasted like tar and would not agree to making another pot for us to replace it...But that is just the start!!
The food (buffet style with an omelet station) was atrocious! When we all made our way to the station there was hardly any food at all and most of it was cold and greasy!! The omelet station cook tried giving us half cooked omelets and at one point made some rude remarks
to one of our kids. (asked him if he wanted "bat poop"!!! I guess he thought a kid would find that funny...he was wrong!) EVERY ITEM they had was either cold, greasy or undercooked and not even close to being acceptable. Again.. we tried our best to cope with it and my parents are such wonderful people that they would not have thought of making a scene. Again...if it were not for my respect and love for them we would have not only made a scene we would have walked out again at that point.
I run a personal chef business here in Colorado. I have a very successful business that employs 15 top chefs here in Colorado They serve well over 100 steady clients each week with more being added everyday. We receive tons of compliments and get repeat business all the time and my wife and I have eaten at this restaurant before and to say that this was a surprise does not even begin to tell how disappointed we were with this!
Now the final nail here... We left the restaurant and I attempted to contact the management staff on Monday. Again, if my family had not been there we would have confronted them that day. I could not ruin this day for my Mom by getting into it with a staff that obviously did not care/were unprepared/lacked experience in this type of dining
and that were barely visible to us as it was anyway.
To this day (3 days after my contact) I have had no reply or response
to my complaint. The owners of The Blue Star need to take note that NO ONE in my business..NO ONE in my family...No ONE that we all know or come in contact with will be recommending your restaurant in any way. In fact we will be sure that the word gets out about this disaster and we hope that reviews like this will prompt you to take a serious look at your process!! Too bad that this happened as our city is in dire shape when it comes to dining experiences.
