“great zoo!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

Only zoo in the country on a mountain. Great variety of animals. They all look very well cared for and the layout/presentation is great. We enjoy the Denver Zoo as well, but this is different, with different animals. We enjoy walking/hiking and live in the mountains (in a ski resort) so walking up/down the hills was fun for us (it is stroller and "kid-in-backpack" friendly). We skipped the chairlift ride - we get plenty of chairlift rides at home. The restaurant was very good with lots of choices and reasonable prices. I had been here maybe 20+ years ago and remembered it as being great, I was glad to see it still is. If you want to save a few bucks go to their website and take the zookeeper quiz - fun for the kids and very educational.

“Great zoo and on a mountain!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

One of the better zoos in the midwest, it is built on a mountain. Great views of Colorado Springs, very good animal displays and a great hike. Hint: Ride the Tram to the top and walk your way down, especially if you are not used to the altitude.

“unique zoo with coolest giraffes ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2013

As a resident of Denver, we regularly attend the lovely Denver Zoo and so it seemed kind of silly to drive to CO Springs to go to another zoo. But I had heard raves about Cheyenne Mountain Zoo for years and so finally this summer took the kids on a day trip to see it for ourselves. The resulting consensus: CMZ deserves all the raves for the setting and giraffes alone. Built on multiple levels into the mountain, the zoo is stunning and truly unique. Hand-feeding the giraffes is definitely an not-to-miss activity that my kids (and me) were totally thrilled to do. If not for the expense of the lettuce, we would have been at the giraffe enclosure for an hour or more! The rest of the zoo is pleasant and we enjoyed what we saw, but if not for the unusual setting, this aspect of the zoo is not significantly different from other good zoos. So in conclusion, I am glad we went and would return as a special trip once a summer or so do something different. However, it does not replace the Denver Zoo in my mind for overall convenience and value, at least not for where we live in relation to CMZ.

“Fantastic Zoo!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2013

I have been to many, many zoos, and this was by far my favorite! It is not huge, but the atmosphere and layout is great! It is very unique with it's mountain-side setting and chair-lift ride to top of mountain. A must see if you're in the Colorado Springs area!!!

“Great Fun for the entire family”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

It had been nearly 10 years since our family has visited the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and was pleasantly surprised at the improvements and total zoo experience. The zoo is laid out nicely using the natural terrain while showcasing lots of animals. We found it to be visitor friendly and thought it offered lots of interaction with the animals. The sky ride is also a neat addition to see wonderful vista views and a different view of the zoo as well. We would highly recommend adding this to your Colorado itinerary.
