“Interesting, but dated and tired”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

Stayed here on a visit with friends in Colorado Springs. Fairly inexpensive. Interesting situation where it is partly a hotel, partly a condominium/apartment complex, primarily attracting retired and senior citizens. It also houses a number of businesses that occupy the lower floor and the penthouse.

Room was dated, but clean for the most part. Towels were quite harsh and worn. TV is attached to a cable converter, but the remote only changes channels, no on-off or volume control. Hot water was plentiful for shower and washing. Bed was fairly comfortable. Small table and chair, coffee maker. Some pieces of the furniture were missing trim.

Was given vouchers for breakfast (due to the fact that the ad for the place still lists free breakfast but that is not true). Restaurant is a throwback to the '60's and there were few people using it.

Staff there and at the front desk were very friendly and helpful (5 stars there) but the hotel portion of the place needs a major facelift.

Looking for a cheap place to stay, but don't care about looks, then this might be the place for you.

For a very reasonable price you can literally step back in time to the fabulous Satellite Hotel – opened in 1969, it’s fantastic 60′s Architecture won it an article on Waymarking.com as an example of Googie Architecture.

There doesn’t seem to be a record of who the architect is, but according to one of the gregarious guests in the hotel bar, there’s a twin of this building over in Hawaii. The top of the building used to boast a radio station, however, it’s now been converted to offices.

The Satellite is the home to 241 condominium owners and it is operated and maintained to meet the high standards of these permanent residents and there has been some controversy over keeping the hotel rooms . They used to be the closest hotel to the airport, but times have changed and as business has slowed, the hotel rooms mostly lie empty. As mid-century hotel lovers, we’d love to see more publicity on this great hotel so they will keep their rooms!

The architecture – ooo, la, la!

We just spent four nights at the hotel and were not disappointed. Great Hotel for the price. Spotless well maintain and they even sweep the sidewalks. Their new restaurant Shuttles was also outstanding. The prices were great and we as a group ate there, when we were in the Hotel. The Staff was very friendly and very attentive to details and try to please us. Excellent food choices for all types of appertite. The cost was for differnt foods were excellent. We ate breakfastt there everyday and had a couple of dinners as a group. Good, Good and we will go back there to eat from time to time, beacuse we also live in the neighborhood. The Front Desk was also very accomindating Ms Shannon did everything she could to help us out. We really appreciated all her hard work. What more can I say about this great hotel. They have a great swimming pool and well lighted at night. If you come to colorado Springs don't over look this Hotel. Ken Taylor, MSG. USAF, Ret

The Satellite is not a chain hotel but is a viable option well worth considering. Most of the building is residential with the bottom floors reserved for hotel guests. In some ways, the business model is dated; no in-room Internet is a significant weakness, although perhaps the only weakness. The staff have all been very friendly and accommodating, the facility is immaculate, the restaurant in the building is simple but excellent quality and value, etc. The rooms are older but very clean, and the beds seem newer and very comfortable. I highly encourage consideration of a stay here as a vy solid value proposition.

After my last visit in April, I wanted to update as this place has dramatically improved in many ways. You can tell people care. The entire outside is being painted and looks fantastic. The tennis courts were refurbished and there is a computer in the lobby for guests to use for free. This helps when traveling on business. The entire 2nd floor hotel rooms have been renovated and are spotless. As usual, its location is good for restaurants and close to the highway. The pool area is one of the best I have seen. There is also a new restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and its good food. I was told it is run now by a owner who runs several restaurants in the area. Good value for the money and the views are spectacular.

As a somewhat regular visitor to the Satellite Hotel, I found no semblance of quality on this past trip. Every staff member I encountered appeared to want to be somewhere (anywhere) else. Front desk staff were engaged in personal phone calls most times that we visited the front desk. The clincher for me was the free shuttle between the hotel and airport. It reeked of cigarette smoke, was littered with discarded wrappers and water bottles, and the dashboard and carpeting had stains and spills. It resembled a van that is someone's home, too, and went way beyond clutter--to deep-down ingrained dirt.

Don't let previous reviews keep you away from the Satellite. There is new management and we are actively working to make improvements every day. An internet & business center will be available very soon for ou guests.

I loved the sites, Pikes Peak etc but was not thrilled with the Satilite hotel. It was alright but alot of the rooms have been converted into permanet living spaces for disabled/elderly and the bar/dining area was cramped and full of these people.
