“Anniversary Get Away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2012

I had been looking for a different place to spend some time with my Bride on the weekend of our 40 anniversary. Having never before stayed at a B&B I looked for different places. Hughes Hacienda was the spot I finally chose at the last minute. Wayne was very accommodating to the late reservation. We spent 2 days. Our room was well appointed and Carol was a gracious host, attentive and friendly. Carol was a new friend by the time we left. The location and views of the Blue mountains was special to us. The facility is very quiet and my bride and I enjoyed the laid back atmosphere of the facility once we relaxed after about 1 hour sitting on the patio. The hummers and birds of all kinds flittered about the patio. Carol and the birds made the superb and delicious breakfast even more enjoyable, almost didn't want the leave while enjoying their chatter. The deer were also up close and personnel.
Wayne also knows the places to eat and see in Colorado Springs and local area. Wayne's restaurant suggestions were right on for our tastes and the variety. Several good to excellent places are within 10 miles of the Hacienda. Each place he suggested we tried and the restaurants were very enjoyable.
Hughes Hacienda is tucked away in the foothills and in early August with the Hot Colorado temperatures this weekend brought a little coolness.
Both Colorado Springs and The Royal Gorge are nearby. A little over 45 minutes to the Gorge and Canon City.
Since this was our first B&B experience I would believe that I could not have chosen a better spot.

We have stayed in 132 B & Bs in the U.S., Canada, The United Kingdom, and various European countries. Hughes Hacienda is my favorite. Set on a mountainside, it has a Mexican influenced simplicity of design and decor with subdued colors, terra cotta tiled floors, and pieces of woven leather furniture. The outdoor court, as well as patios and porches, were filled with flowers, trees, other greenery, and fountains. Andean flute music playing softly throughout the house adds to the tranquility.

We stayed in the Baja Room where a view of the mountains and birdsong from many birds, especially hummingbirds, on and about several bird feeders greeted us each morning. A private balcony with chairs, table, and lounges was the perfect setting for my drawing, writing, and reading while my husband hiked in the surrounding mountains. The private bath, two steps across a private hall, was filled with fluffy towels and amenities.

Wayne donned a chef's coat each morning to prepare an exquisite breakfast that can honestly be called gourmet. Unlike most so-called gourmet breakfasts that are heavy on breads, other starches and sugars, his menu was well balanced and included a delicious protein main dish, meat, fruits, coffee, tea, and juice. He did wonders working with my special dietary restrictions. I wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you so much for your special care, Chez Wayne.

Attractions like Garden of the Gods and the Manitou Springs Cliff Dwellings are only minutes away. We will always stay at Hughes Hacienda when in Colorado Springs and already have recommended it to family and friends.

Room Tip: We liked the Baja room with it's balcony best.

From the moment we arrived we were in awe of both the setting and the accomodations. We stayed in the baja room and the view was spectacular. There was wonderful music playing throughout the Hacineda. The decor was an amazing selection of items that blended perfectly into the beautiful mountain setting. The breakfast was absolutley exquisite, and the setting on the outdoor patio with the hummingbirds buzzing about was amazing. The grounds were so beautiful and well kept. All the attention to detail makes Hughes Hacienda a one of a kind, wonderful experience, that delights all of the senses. Wayne and Carol thought of everything and are amazing hosts. We can't wait to return!

We have been staying in B&Bs for years, so our expectations are usually pretty high. Hughes Hacienda exceeded our expectations. It was so peaceful and private. Wayne and Carol was such wonderful hosts. Wayne's breakfasts were to die for! What a great presentation--I still think he must be a chef (although he would never admit to it)! We stayed in the Baha Room, which had the most wonderful balcony overlooking the red rock mountains. We sat out on the balcony each evening and enjoyed the tranquility of the setting and the faraway lights from the city. There outdoor porch where breakfast was served was also quite lovely. Wayne made reservations for us at the Juniper Valley Ranch restaurant, which was an awesome suggestion. All in all, it was a stay to remember. I highly suggest skipping the mundane hotels in Colorado Springs and trying something refreshingly different. You can't beat Hughes Hacienda!!

Room Tip: Take your camera. The surroundings are beautiful, and the hummingbirds are amazing on the balcony o...

We stayed at the Hacienda for our anniversary and had a wonderful and relaxing stay. The suite we stayed in was beautiful. The bedding was soft and comfortable. The room was equipped with all we needed to prepare our happy hour and then go sit on a their veranda with hummingbirds and a beautiful view of the red rocks.Breakfast was served right on the same porch and was very good. The service was great. We were able to take advantage of the acres of land and take a hike. We will go back again!! Hopefully soon

Room Tip: Both rooms are great.

One of the loveliest places we have stayed while on vacation! Serene and secluded from the hustle bustle of the city, this place drew us in, the minute we walked into the tastefully landscaped courtyard of this hidden “Hacienda”. The owners Wayne and Carol were both very gracious, exceled in service and hospitality, and it was obvious from the way they respected our privacy that they believed in providing a first class experience to their guests. The ambience of this place reflected a discerning taste in décor and furniture perfectly balancing nature with natural materials, the interior being an extension of the exterior. Missing breakfast at this Hacienda is the biggest mistake you will make. Don’t! Having a gourmet breakfast prepared by the very talented ‘Chef Wayne’ in the “outdoor room” with high ceilings, at an elegant wood table, while we drank in the view of the mountains, was undoubtedly the highlight of our stay here. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to nurture their soul surrounded by the bounty of nature.

Room Tip: The Hacienda room is very well appointed!
