Any visit to Colorado Springs must include the Garden of the Gods, which lies in front of Pikes Peak. Just about any picture I have ever seen of Pikes Peak is taken with the rocks of the Garden of the Gods in the foreground. It is relatively small and can be crowded at times, but if you are an early riser, you can have the park to yourself. And the early morning offers some of the best light to take pictures of the rocks framing Pikes Peak. And it is free.....what a deal. Alot of nearby tourist traps do not offer the beauty and they are not free!!!! Colorado Springs is a really beautiful area to visit, alot of things to do and see. But for the value and the scenry, Garden of the Gods cannot be passed up. Go in the early morning and enjoy the solitude and mountain scenry.

What a great way to spend a morning or afternoon. We spent a couple of hours careening are way through these magnificent rock formations. Even got an opportunity to see rock climbers scaling some of the more challenging outcrops. Some pointed toward the skies others seem to point towards mother earth and balance on their points. They seemed to defy gravity. The cost for all of this...absolutely nothing. What could be better.

For the price you can't miss this stop along your trip. Driving through and even walking through some of it didn't take long at all. The formations were beautiful. I didn't see much wildlife and when I did catch this bright blue feathered bird in the brush, I wanted to get it on the camcorder, only I couldn't as the other people walking around came around and scared it off. There is a gift shop at the entrance and it's worth a stop as well. I picked up some huckleberry cheesecake jelly beans which were excellent and wish now I had bought a few more of the huckleberry items they had as we don't have that flavor in anything where I live. And even if you don't like all of that, it's still free and you don't ever have to leave your car unless you want to.

My husband & I spent a couple of hours at Garden of the Gods recently & were really impressed by the enormity & beauty of the rock
formations. HOWEVER, our enjoyment was curtailed by the presence of many adults & children who chose to ignore the huge signs warning not
to climb the rocks. Now I don't care so much if stupid people want to
risk theirs & their children's lives, I care more about the rocks. As
a geology buff, I'm all too aware that the action of people will help
to erode & damage these precious gems. The signs were many, large & clearly posted. My attorney husband was incensed at the lawlessness of the tourists. More appalling were the parents encouraging young children, toddlers even, to clamber on the rocks, some of which, are unsteady & can fall at anytime. It's just great to know that parents teach their children to break the law, isn't it? What we wanted to know was; where were the park rangers??? People, if you visit these rocks, respect & admire them. Don't act like a moron & risk injury & a $500 fine for climbing on the Garden of the Gods.
