The Air Force Academy is one of Colorado's top destinations for a reason... it's beautiful. Maybe I'm a bit biased because I was stationed there for six years, but it never fails to create a sense of awe. The sprawling campus just has a few areas open for tourists, but it's worth the effort. Enter through the North Gate and turn left at the first intersection for a close-up experience with a B-52. Continue up Northgate road to the cadet area and opportunity to see the world famous chapel. Ideally, time your visit before noon so you can be there to watch the cadets march into lunch. If you're lucky you'll get to enjoy a flyover of helicopters or airplanes that are occasionally scheduled to thrill and motivate the cadets. The gift shop offers wonderful souvenirs, but is like gift shops everywhere.
