Owner description: Welcome to Pikes Peak - America's Mountain! The Pikes Peak Highway entrance is conveniently located 15 minutes west of Colorado Springs on Highway 24. The beauty of being so close to the city is that you can spend your time enjoying the mountain instead of getting to the mountains. Plan for your round trip journey to the summit to take 2-3 hours. The safe, scenic highway provides you the opportunity to enjoy Pikes Peak at your leisure. From the gateway at an elevation of 7,400 feet, you'll encounter some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world as you wind your way through an alpine wonderland of scenic beauty, mountain reservoirs, beyond timberline, overtaking the clouds...All along the way to the 14,115 foot summit of America's most famous mountain. Along the way, you'll discover the North Slope Recreation Area, Crystal Reservoir Gift Shop, Historic Glen Cove Inn, and the Summit House. There are three lakes for fishing, picnic areas, hiking trails, and breathtaking views. Stop and watch one of our "Meet the Ranger" Interpretive Programs and learn about the history, myths, flora and fauna on the mountain. All offer visitor services and basic necessities to make your day both enjoyable and memorable.

“Road to heaven – stopped by ice and snow”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

If you want to go to pikes peak - ask the cashier, if the complete (!) way to the peak is open. Because it is possible, that the road one ore two miles near the target is closed based on ice and snow. So, whe had to return, could not climb the complete mountain by car. Without this trouble: The route is very nice, you can see a lot.

“Breathtaking Drive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

The pikes Peak highway is a beautiful drive through nature. It is paved all the way to the top and very safe for non-mountain experienced drivers. There are drop-offs on parts of the drive which scares some, but it really is not that bad! The view from the top is beautiful and you should have a special donut and hot chocolate in the gift shop area.

“A cool drive with spectacular views!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013 via mobile

Good drive ...pretty steep with several switch backs ...and no guard rails...a bit pricy at 10$ a head...but beautiful...we could only go to around 12000 feet due to snow and ice ...the gift shop was pretty sparse and the cafe was closed and didn't even have coffee when it was 24 degrees outside...that being said its a must do for first times to Colorado Springs area...the views were breathtaking!

“Great Views and Take Your Time Driving It”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

The views are spectacular on a clear day with a few high clouds. The drive is fun if not a bit scary on the switch backs, but take your time and it is enjoyable. There are a few places to stop along the way and I would take advantage of them. Highly recommend driving down slowly and enjoying the sights. There is a gift shop at the top and a cafe where you can grab a snack from the limited menu, but what can you expect at 14,114 feet! The Pike Peak Tram is a good way to go if you don't like driving the many switchbacks.

“A must do”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

The switch backs are crazy. Awesome views. A must do when in the area. If you're in a rental car, you'll want a V6!
