“Very Scenic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

We had time between our rafting trip and train ride, so we walked 1.5 miles each way. Even on a hot day the breeze off the gorge keeps you cool. The rock walls are amazing. In addition to the tunnels there is a bridge and the trail is helpfully marked in 1/4 mile markers. I got different answers about how long it was. There are benches and a few picnic tables with trash receptacles along the way. If we had known this, we would have eaten our packed lunch there instead of Veteran's Park in town. Veteran's Park was fine but it took away time from the walk. To find Tunnel Drive, head west out of town -- is the road just BEFORE the community college. It only off to the left, then STAY left. Ask anyone in town and they will easily direct you.

“Tunnel Drive Trail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

The Tunnel Drive trail is a 2 mile out / 2 mile back route that takes you through 3 tunnels through the granite hillside and along the Arkansas River. You also have views of the Royal Gorge Train tracks. If you time it right you will get to see the train pass about 200 feet below the trail. There are 2 picnic tables and several benches that overlook the river and train tracks. It is a very flat trail once you climb the first 100 yards from the parking lot. Early morning and at sunset are the best times to go here. You will get beautiful scenic views as the sun rises or is setting. Being here in the middle of the day can be very HOT so ensure you take water with you.

“Great Hike”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

Short walk but very scenic. Good way to stretch out the legs from a previous day of rafting the Gorge. The city plans to bring the riverwalk all the way up to Tunnel Drive over the next few years.

“Great place for a leisurely walk!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013

Tunnel Drive is just outside Canon City. There is a steep hill at the beginning, but you can drive up to drop people off if necessary and has handicapped parking at the top of the hill. The walk through the tunnels ( 3 of them) is flat. It is amazing to walk above the Arkansas River and watch the rafters. Every so often the Royal Gorge Train comes by and you can wave to the people in the open air cars. It doesn't tell you, but the trail is 2 miles long. Be sure to take water with you.
