Complete praise and accolades to Rio Celeste Hideaway. They have brought a true gem to the area. Absolutely everyone on the staff was friendly and gracious, and everything was done "con cariño" - a definite touch from the Colombian owner and one I most appreciate. Each day our bed and bathroom was made up with the towels folded in shapes of turtles, hearts, birds, camisas, flowers. And each were decorated with flower petals, leaves and care. It was a work of art. Mattresses and pillows were excellent. Coffee in room with mini fridge excellent. Living space - awesome. Each afternoon I would thank our house keeper for the care she took with our room. I loved the fact that we had the same lady for our 3 night visit so we got to know one another and ease of comfort that we were in good hands. This is a place to just be..relax, take a long luxurious bath, wrap yourself up in your robe, and have a cocktail on your balcony bird watching. The staff will do everything in their power to make sure you are happy. Excellent customer service. Relaxing in the first hot jacuzzi I have ever been in while in Costa Rica while sipping a rum and coke. Put your cell phone, computer and electronics aside and just be present at the Hideaway. I will definitely be back. I highly recommend staying for 3 nights. We extended our stay as 2 nights was not enough. Also recommend spending a day just lounging by the river with a to-go lunch from the restaurant, doing some bird watching and sun bathing. Great day!

Room Tip: If you want quite, I would stay away from the pool. Opt for the river side rooms, I believe those ar...

There's not much I can say about this place that hasn't already been said, but I must add to the chorus of praise for Rio Celeste Hideaway. True, it rained almost the whole time we were there, and at any other place that would have been a huge bummer... but we seized the opportunity to slow down, relax, and enjoy this beautiful place. Even though the hotel was nearly full, we often felt like we had the place to ourselves. Our casita was really impressive (photos do not capture just how spacious and luxurious the casitas are!), as were the common spaces. The best part of Rio Celeste, however, was the outstanding staff (special shouts out to Oscar, Gustavo, Mauricio, and Gravan), who provided great, personalized service, and truly made our stay extraordinary. We had a great time getting to know everyone and conversing in Spanglish. We went on a couple of tours arranged by the hotel, and our guide (Alberto) was fantastic as well. We had planned to hike to the waterfall ourselves, and at the last minute decided to go with a guide, and we're so glad we did! A few notes: 1) food and drinks were great and totally reasonable... wasn't sure what to expect based on some earlier reviews, but it is evident that the management has listened and made improvements. 2) if you're keeping tabs on the weather from home before leaving, do not believe the forecast if it says zero percent chance of rain! Bring a rain jacket anyway! And 3) if you're driving, the bridge you've probably read about is now open!

Rio Celeste: we'll be back!

My husband and I stayed here two nights and truly enjoyed the experience. We flew in to San Jose and rented a car to make the drive to Rio Celeste Hideaway. The trip was long long and seemed never-ending, especially the last few miles on the cobblestone-type road. We questioned quite a few times whether we missed a turn, but alas, we saw the beautiful hotel and were thrilled to finally arrive.
The room is fantastic with an enormous bathroom and an outdoor shower that was a real treat. We loved the wood floors and furniture. The hotel grounds are gorgeous and we enjoyed the close proximity to the Tenorio Volcano National Park. The staff is incredible; extremely nice and very accommodating!
We would love to visit again! It was a very unique experience.

Emphasize the hideaway part of the resort's name and you've got it in one! This place was fantastic. It had all of the things you would normally expect from a great resort--great service, unexpected amenities like a laptop available to you, a beautiful pool with 3 clean hot tubs, gorgeous (and I do mean gorgeous) individual cabinas, impeccably groomed landscaping, a first-class restaurant with gourmet food . . . just think of being pampered and taken care of, and Rio Celeste Hideaway can do it for you. Whether it was the time of the week we were there or the season, often, we had the pool completely to ourselves. But to really get the flavor of the resort, you've got to get to know some of the people there. For instance, German who is in charge of the restaurant, was truly a gentleman and took fantastic care of us. Also Maurice (I'm sure I'm misspelling his name somewhat) was the hardworking bartender who made so many trips to the pool bearing offerings. The rest of the staff who worked the reception desk, shuttle cart, grounds, and maid service, while I may not know their individual names, were unfailingly polite and helpful. And if that's not enough, there is a small flock of guinea hens who wander around the place and add a little local flair to it. It was truly an experience we will not forget soon! Getting to the place is a little time-consuming, but just count it as part of the adventure. Make it easy and enjoyable for yourself and ask the resort to arrange transport for you, and ask if they can send Fernando to get you. He knows the local territory so well that he was the "guide" who found us a sloth to take pictures of from about 5 feet;he'll stop to find red and blue tree frogs, identify birds and teak forests--you might even get to stop by his home and meet his parents! I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our 3 day stay at Rio Celeste Hideaway. Fantastic!

Really enjoyed this property. I was a little concerned that because of the remoteness of the hotel the food might be overpriced and not that good so I booked a package that included meals. It ended up being an incredible deal and all our meals were really good. The restaurant staff were all really friendly.

The front desk had a selection of dvds to watch in the room. The entrance to the Rio Celeste National Park was just down the hill. Make sure to take the same trail back as we had a communication problem with some other hikers and didn't realize there were two different park entrances and ended up at the wrong one and really far away from our car.

Room Tip: We were on the side closest to the river and it was nice being able to hear it while sitting on the...

Stayed here while traveling with a tour group for one night. Service was impeccable, and the rooms were beautiful! It is a hard drive and was happy we had a driver. Would have been a perfect place for couples.

We stayed this past week at the Rio Celeste Hideaway and true to its name - it's hidden away. We had a really hard time finding it, particularly because we were trying to beat the sun, which sets around 5:30pm. Roads in Costa Rica may or may not be lit at night, particularly in more remote areas. We were lucky that it wasn't raining that first day, at least. There are two ways to get to this hotel from the main highway (4) - by turning onto an unpaved road at Katira, or at Guatuso. We came from the north and made the turn at Katira - it was absolutely painful along a rocky road up and down hills to find the hotel, for almost an hour. If you plan on doing this, make sure to get an SUV with good suspension - we can't imagine doing that drive in a sedan (though we saw some locals driving it). There are periodic signs to the hotel every couple kilometers that pop up right when you think you must be hopelessly lost.

That being said, once we arrived, we were greeted by Oscar, who had been very prompt about replying to my emails and questions. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and gave us a tour of the facilities. The casita was gorgeous, and very large by hotel standards - it was like having your own cabin or bungalow (well, without the water) - the bed was comfortable and the balcony was a nice extra. There were DVD's to borrow from the front desk, and also a lounge with wifi and laptops available.

We ate at the restaurant for dinner because after that drive, we didn't want to drive anywhere else to look for food. It isn't cheap, but given the ambiance and the menu, I don't think it was unreasonable. The presentation was excellent, and we really enjoyed the meal. The staff was very nice and since there weren't very many people there that night, we got a lot of attention.

The breakfast has an American option or the "typical" option. We ordered the typical Costa Rican food and thought it was quite tasty.

The beds have an option to lower the curtains as mosquito netting, which I appreciated because I'm quite prone to mosquito bites. The showers had very light water pressure, which I guess some people might like since it feels like rain, but I personally could have used more pressure. The jacuzzi tub was quite nice as well. My husband used the outdoor shower to wash off some mud after hiking, he said that it was better pressure, but it didn't really warm up while he was out there.
