So first, if you don't want to be "away from it all" then this is not the place for you! High up in the Tenorio rainforest, you are literally surrounded by nothing but peace and quiet (except for the birds and monkeys!). As other reviews have noted, the ride in is long and extremely bumpy. The new bridge is supposed to be finished by December and will cut down on the length of the trip by more than 50 km.
We were on our honeymoon and it was exactly what we wanted. The staff is extremely attentive but not overly intrusive. Every single person there was pleasant, friendly and helpful. The grounds are beautiful and the rooms are extremely well maintained. There are wonderful things to see everywhere, including an albino rabbit on the property!
The two tours we took through the hotel were fantastic (the Rio Celeste waterfall tour and the coffee tour). Please make sure if you are going to do these, you are in decent shape and have good walking shoes with you. The jungle walk is 4 hours round trip, with 253 stairs to the waterfall (which you have to come back up!) and a moderate hike over lots of roots and rocks. The coffee tour is approximately 2 miles of walking on hilly roads both ways. However, they are highly recommended and we loved both! Also, nothing we brought ever dried out completely, even the ready dry clothing, so we are glad we packed a bit extra.
We had only two issues:
1. The food was very good and fresh, but overpriced. There are not many options within walking distance (we found one within 1/2 mile and one 2 miles away with limited hours), and as other reviews have noted, you are a bit trapped into eating there.
2. The rooms are extremely close together. So close, you can see people on at least three other balconies from some rooms. This was not my idea of solitude! We asked to move our room after the first night because the resort was nearly empty (low season) and guests were placed in the cabin right next to us. The staff quickly accomodated us moving and also made sure that no one was placed next to us for the remainder of the stay.
Hopefully this is helpful. It is a wonderful place :-).
Room Tip: Ask for one that is separated from other guests if possible.
