Despite its review on diners , drive-ins, and dives, the "Kraut burgers" (dough from scratch stuffed with a mixture of some variety containing both meat and sauerkraut) provided by Lauer Krauts are a good - but not particularly spectacular - food choice in brighton.
Those not familiar with Brighton may find its location on 6th Avenue easy to miss, the best way to reach this location is to turn onto sixth off of Bridge street, and then look quite attentively on your left side as you progress down the Avenue.
The Lauer-Kraut building is fairly small as it has only a couple tables inside, and the entrance is actually on the side of the building so it does not create a larger visual appearance from the street to look for.
Once inside, I tried several varieties of the Kraut Burger and was somewhat disappointed in the bland flavoring of those varieties which did not include elements like jalepeno. It seems in the standard burger that some of the traditional elements used to flavor this type of food - like pepper - were perhaps not as strong as they could be. The result is a somewhat greasy, cheesy heavy burger with a fair amount of wasted potential.
Diners who have sensitivity to health concerns and need to track calories, fat, or carb intake should also be forewarned that the restaurant focuses on what it does best - german sausages and kraut burgers - and they may have a challenge finding healthier fare on the menu.
For all that, if you have never had a kraut burger, Lauer Krauts is a wholesome family run establishment, where you can get a fair value and something a little out of the ordinary as a fast food option for your family!
