“Clean, pleasant and secluded.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

We were on our first visit to Colorado and doing a 7 day road trip making Breckenridge one of our stops. We found The Lodge and Spa at Breckenridge through Hotels.com and the pics and reviews helped us choose this hotel for one of our overnights. We were so happy to find upon our arrival that we booked a beautiful lodge/hotel in a mountain setting with beautiful views of the mountains. We found it to be very clean and with a courteous staff. Our room was nice and comfortable and clean. Only wished there was a mirror in the room other than the small bathroom mirror (such as a full length or mirror over the dresser). We wanted to start the fireplace and when we couldn't get it to work we called the front desk and was told if it didn't work it was just there for looks. However, my husband checked and said it would work if the pilot light was on. So we did not bother with it. We took several pics during our stay as our room had a beautiful view of the mountains. The breakfast buffet was nice and kept replenished (we prefer hotels that offer "breakfast included" keeps us from trying to find a restaurant on the run. Even the dining area offered a view too! If we are ever in the area again, we would probably choose The Lodge again. We liked the price too.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your recent visit with us. All of our Mountain Views with a King bed and our Suites have working fireplaces. There are 2 Forest Views with a King that have a fireplace in the room, however it is not a working fireplace. These rooms are sold as our Forest Views since they are forest view. Please call us directly to ensure you are getting the room that fits your lodging needs.
Sincerely, Rhonda

Pros: located just outside and above Breckenridge proper, so not as noisy and if you can get a mountain view room, the view out over the valley is exceptional. Staff was friendly and informative, and there is a stop for the free town shuttle located conveniently at the end of their drive.
Cons: room was showing its age, and the carpet was pretty dreadful. Room has no fridge or microwave. Fan barely moved the air, and with no air conditioning, the only way to cool the room was by opening a door, which had no screen.
I didn't get to try the complimentary breakfast since we left quite early, but previous reviewers have not been impressed, which doesn't surprise me.
For a short visit, The Lodge and Spa works, but if I was going to be staying for any longer, I'd look elsewhere.

Room Tip: Must have a mountain view, and I'd choose the top floor to avoid overhead noise.

The Lodge offers multiple room type options. Only in our Mountain View Suites do we have a microwave, mini-fridge & countertop with sink. If you book a Forest View or Mountain View you would just have regular hotel room. We are reviewing he carpet and replacing what needs to be replaced. The Lodge does not have AC (like every other hotel in Breckenridge). We offer great customer service and are willing to help any guest out that might have a special need or would like a different room, we just need to know your concerns so we can resolve them during your stay!
Sincerely, Rhonda

We made reservations (and paid in advance) because this resort allowed pets (in our case, a Brittany) to stay with us in our room. What a disappointing hotel! This at one have time may have been a good place to stay----not now. Let's see-----no air conditioning (granted, this is not uncommon in this ski resort town)----huge rips in the room carpet-----holes in the ceiling drywall-----broken towel bars and smashed tile in the bathroom----sagging, lumpy beds-----etc., etc. On the flip-side, the sheets and towels were clean and the front desk service was acceptable----but gosh, what a disappointment! My advice is to try some other place----don't stay here.

We are sorry to hear about this guests recent stay. It is very important to us that our guests receive a clean, comfortable and maintenance free room. The Lodge (like every other place in Breckenridge) does not have AC. We are reviewing the issues listed and resolving these immediately.

I got a great price through Hotels.com for $76/night. Normal rate is either $99 or $150, according to the desk clerk. It was a "shot in the dark" since I had never been here and got a special rate (which didn't last long) on Hotels.com. This is a rustic lodge high on the hill overlooking Breckenridge. My idiot GPS took me the "back way" from the south, back and forth, and over a bumpy gravel road. But, the real way is easy access to main street of Breckenridge. The breakfast was so-so, with cereal, toast, muffins, etc. My room overlooked the hot tubs so people were talking out there until 10:30, although the hot tubs were suppose to close at 10 pm. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat for the right price!

Thanks for taking the time to write a review on your recent stay! We do recommend that guests follow our direct directions of GPS & MapQuest as they will try to lead you us a more difficult route that they see as shorter. It is best to stay on Boreas Pass till you reach the 2nd right turn on Overlook Drive where our sign is. We offer a complimentary continental breakfast as a get you started option. We are the only place in Breckenridge that offers a complementary breakfast option. There are a few rooms over the hot tub area, please let us know if this might be a concern for you so we can get you into the best room to fit your needs.
Sincerely, Rhonda

If circumstances warrant, I would stay again, but cautiously. I booked on Expedia, which i have found is not the best way to go, as I have in the past gotten not the best rooms as a result. But, I wasn't planning on spending a lot of time in the room, so didn't really care that much. However, what I got was a room that was nice on the surface, but: had windows that did not open, so the only way to get any air into the room was to open the door to the balcony, which overlooked the parking lot and a good portion of the roof of the entry portico of the hotel; had the only mirror in the room located over a pedestal sink and which was very high, which wasn't an issue for me, as I am on the taller side. Anyone a few inches shorter would have had an problem even styling hair using the mirror, and trying to get a look at a complete outfit was impossible. Carpet was stained in a few areas, and there were stains on the coverlet on the bed. Did not look new, but still should not have been there. The hotel is not new, but I have been in a lot worse. Some TLC would go a long way. Also, for travelers who have any physical disability issues, be aware that there are no elevators. The hotel is only 2 stories, but if you have a problem with stairs and carrying your own luggage up those stairs, make sure you have a first floor room.
NOW FOR THE GOOD STUFF. Extremely friendly front desk staff. Very dog-friendly. Seriously, if you want to go to Breckenridge with a dog in tow, stay here. At the front desk, they have a chalkboard with the names of the canine guests staying with them, and a big jar of treats. Breakfast, which some review have complained about, was perfectly fine for me as it was about the same as I would have eaten at home. Bagels, bread, danish, muffins, hard-boiled eggs, a variety of cereals, make-your-own waffles with very nice toppings available. A variety of juices. Location is very quiet. No traffic noise and when I stayed, no guest noise. This hotel does not charge for a lot of things that other hotels do charge for so when you price the room as compared to other hotels, remember that there is no charge for the breakfast ( probably about $8 or so in town), parking (could be up to $20 per night in town), and wifi (usually about $10/day in most hotels).
So, there are things about the hotel I didn't like, but at least they don't nickel and dime you to death on the extras. Also, this hotel is not in town, but located above town, so no walking to dinner. But if you have a car, it's a very short drive down the hill to the town of Breckenridge. Just don't stay in room 218 if you want some fresh air.

Room Tip: make sure you ask for a room that has windows that can be opened.

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us. We always recommend booking your lodging directly through the hotel so that you are finding the best room type that fits your needs. Our Forest View Rooms face the parking lot and tree area, however we have plenty of Mountain View Room options for just a little more in $ that will have panoramic view of the mountain range. We do have 1 room with windows that do not open, and we are working to resolve this. The Lodge has plenty of rooms on the first floor (ground level), as we do not have an elevator to the rooms on the 2nd level. In the winter we do offer a complimentary shuttle service and we also sit on the local free bus route that runs year round.
Sincerely, RHonda

This was the third night of our 15 day 3500 road trip across the USA with two dogs. The Lodge and Spa at Breckenridge was by far our favorite overall experience. We knew immediately we walked through the door that we wanted to stay longer - and did! It changed the whole tone and continued expectations for our road tour. The front desk experience was fun - welcomed by a cute small dog. Our room had spectacular views over the mountains and an inviting fireplace for still cool evenings. The dog walking facilities and supplies were by far the best we experienced in the whole tour. We were often out in the middle of the night and the lighting was just perfect - not too bright - just enough. We got to see a fox which was a special delight for Max and Nikki - Pomeranians. The other thing that was a good reminder of a good dog friendly hotel was that the other quests were considerate good dog people - they were also interesting people staying there. We received some great tips for our continuing road trip. The receptionist also gave us excellent suggestions for dinner which were extremely welcomed given our short stay. We simply had a blast! We will definitely be back! Thanks for such a pleasant stay!

Room Tip: Choose a room with mountain views and one king size bed. We had a lovely sitting area with a firepla...

This place is awesome, the price is cheap for what they give you. The service at the front desk are kind and helpful. There's a gym and a spa and although we didn't go in it the hotub on the deck outside seemed nice. The rooms were very clean and had a fantastic view of the mountains, and wasn't too far from town. Definitely would stay here again.
