We arrived on Friday, February 13th for school vacation. A little hard finding Beaver Run off Rte 9 South, the sign was tucked in on the right hand side and after asking for directions, it was clear as day. The facility is huge, 4 big buildings. We arrived t 5:30pm and checked in. Waited about 10 mins but that was to be expected for Friday evening. They only had 3 check in people. We were happy to be upgraded to a 2 bedroom Condo with 2 baths, fireplace, kitchen/livingroom condo. Originally booked 2 rooms, but they did not have the rooms near each other so we lucked out with the upgrade, free. We were in room 15020 in Bldg #1. Great location, off the elevator and near Bldg 2 to get to the walkway, arcade, swimming pool and hot tubs and to the restaurants etc. It took a while to get our bearings because the place is so big. Our maid service was great, place was always spotless!
#1. Check in a bit slow but very courteous and friendly staff. That can happen anywhere, but once there she was quick and got us to a room fast.
#2. You have to pay for parking (should be free) but its $10 per night. Thankfully you park in a gargage so no shoveling off snow from your car.
#3. The rooms were huge. Downstairs, had kitchen with stove, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, all appliances, complimentary coffee and tea. Working fireplace and you call a number for wood, we never did light a fire but others have. 3 TV's, not flatscreen ,but they worked. 2 Bedrooms. 1 with a King bed, very comfortable, 1 with 2 Queens. Each room had their own bathroom with plenty of towels and toiletries. Everything functioned well, water pressure etc. We had ceiling fans in each bedroom and livingroom, humidifiers in each room too, comes in handy. Balcony on the first floor overlooking the front of the hotel and mountain.
#4. There were 4 keys on the back of the door for your ski storage which was located right before you head outside to ski. Guests only.
#5. WE used the Skyway Market Place, fast courteous service for bagels, sandwiches, coffee etc. ITs a market too so it had water, bread, cheese, snacks, souvenirs, etc.
#6. Spencer's Restaurant was downstairs from the Marketplace, great food. We ate breakfast there 2 mornings, great, fast courteous service. Awesome blueberry pancakes and belgian waffles. They also offer full buffet breakfast.
#7.Copper Top Bar and Cafe, we ate there for lunch, very good if not better than the ski side mid mountain cafe's. The had panini's, hot soup, pizza, burgers etc.
#8. Ate at 10 Mile Station on Peak 9, very good, also Vista Haus on Peak 8, good soup, pizza, salads for lunch. We did not eat at Bergenhof Restaurant over at Peak 7. At peak 10, the warming Hut's vending machine was not functioning, so no water there.
#9. The bar at Spencer's very good drinks, warm and friendly atmosphere, very small about 5 tables and the bar. Huge outside bar for Apres ski with a gas fire pit, very nice.
#10. Skiing was great, true ski in ski out at Beaver Run, its an 11 minute chair lift ride to the top. Peak 10,9,8 easy to get to but 7 is not so easy to get to.
#9. Hotel offers free shuttle service to town. Take advantage of it. We would walk through the lobby and ask for the shuttle and within 5 mins it was there, just let them know where your going and they drop you off right in front of your establishment. Use your key card (has the hotel # on it) to call to be picked up, worked great. Just remember to tip the bus driver. It ran from 7am to 2am, great service and we didnt' have to take out our car at all. parking is limited downtown.
#11. Downtown Breckenridge, 10 x's better than Vails. Vail's ski mountain is better to ski, but the shopping and restaurants and prices are so much more family friendly.
#12. Didn't have a bad meal anywhere.
#13. Briar Rose Steak House, high end, but well worth the money
South Ridge Seafood Grill, wonderful fish, service, food, quality reasonable priced. When a restaurant starts with awesome bread, then you know the food will be good, as was the Briarwood and the Dredge.
Mi Casa, a must. 90 Min wait but we ended up in the bar and ate there instead, same menu, great food, good and attentive service and the place was packed and good margarita's.
Jalepeno's, in the River Mountain Lodge, more authentic Mexican food, very good and had a salsa bar you could go up to and pick out what you liked. (no flair restaurant but great food)
Michael's Italian, great no nonsense Italian, I'm Italian and they had the best homemade meatballs ever that I've had out in a restaurant. Fantastic Cheese/Meat Lasagne, wasn't dripping in cheese, just a nice balance and well priced.
The Dredge, awesome, up scale, Ray was the waiter and made awesome reccomendations, Elk tenderloin, Ruby Red Trout and Ribs, all well worth it, great bread, shrimp cocktail etc.
The French Bakery, served savory and sweet crepe's. We went sweet, very good.
Hit Happy HOur at the Breckenridge Brewery Pub, great beer and app's cheap.
Ton's of shops. Tons more restaurants and wish we could have frequented more places.
Best Donuts/Breakfast-Daylight Donuts-one word-Awesome, as far as donuts and food.
The hotel is definetly the best location on the mountain. We went with our two children, 14 and 10 years old.
If your looking for a day off from sking try Alpine Adventures. It's 1 hour away, but on a scenic bypass of the 5 peaks of the Colorado Rockies and that's your view and scenery when Dog Sledding. Take the 2 hour tour, 10 miles and you actually get to hook up the dogs to the sled and drive the sled with the guide and his dogs in the front sled. Stop 1/2 way out in a tent for hot cider/cocoa too. So well worth the money and a great day to give your legs a rest from sking. Not cheap, $200 pp, but will have memories that will last forever. Ask for Matt for your guide, the dogs are friendly and well behaved.
Overall I'd stay at Beaver Run again, clean, friendly, courteous, good quality food etc. The arcade was the only thing that looked like it needed more lighting and a fresh coat of paint, but the kids didn't care. The pool was 1/2 inside 1/2 outside, adequate, not crowded. Two sections for the hot tubs with 3 tubs in each section, very comfortable water temp, not piping hot and all the jets worked on the tubs.
