“Very happy! Better than expected!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2012

We staid here with friends for a reunion and it was all arranged by others so I didn't expect too much. Boy was I pleasantly surprised! This isnt really a hotel more like a condo or appt rooms. Friendly employees, some other places dont seem to even care. I could have used an a/c but it was ok with a fan.

Hello Bigboyga,

Thank you for your review! I am very happy you enjoyed your trip to Breckenridge, and your stay at The Wedgewood Lodge. Sorry to hear about the warm room, it can sometimes be difficult as most of the time at this altitude it stays relatively mild. We hope the rest of your reunion enjoyed themselves as well, and see you next time!

Best regards,
Sarah

My wife and I stayed at the Wedgewood Lodge in Breckenridge to hike two 14ers (peaks over 14,000 feet in altitude). The condo we rented #306 was beautiful with a great view. It had a full kitchen (we like to shop at the City Market and cook our own food), good carpet and living space. It is a studio, meaning there is not a separate bedroom, the double bed is between the bar of the kitchen and the living room.

The condo was reserved through the Tonti Management, Inc. The condo had to be paid for in advance. Also, there are rules that are somewhat peculiar. For instance, upon check-out you must remove your trash and recyled rubbish. The dishes must be washed and pets are not allowed anywhere on the property. I found this last restriction questionable, since upon checking in we saw a family with a small dog and then later that day, our neighbor in #301 had a dog in his room. When I went to discuss this issue with the desk clerk, I noticed a large dog sleeping behind the counter, so I figured this rule is ignored by the staff as well as the tenants. I noticed the same animal when we checked out. There is also a so-called rule about quiet time between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. The hot tub is supposed to be closed after 10:00 p.m. Obviously, this rule is ignored as well, because people were still in the hot tub having a good time well after 10:00 p.m. We noticed the noise because the hot tub was near our condo.

My wife and I cannot complain about the condo, it was clean and comfortable; however, be prepared for the parameters of the rental.

Room Tip: Know what you are getting into when you rent this condo.

Good morning Joelikes2travel,

Hiking two 14'ers sounds amazing for just one weekend! I am happy to hear you enjoyed your room and the location too. Thank you so much for your review! We truly appreciate all of your feedback, but I just wanted to clarify a few items.

You are correct, there is a note in the condos with information on check out. However, our check out process does not require trash removal or the dishwasher to be run. We just ask this more as a courtesy. This is mostly aimed towards our busy winter months when we want to ensure our rooms are ready for the 4pm Check In time. If the trash is left in the room or dishes in the sink, it is no issue at all.

True, Tonti Management as a company is made up of dog lovers, but I can guarantee that pets are not allowed in guest rooms for allergy reasons. We have a few exceptions: Our on site manager whom was your neighbor during your stay. He lives here full time year round and lives with his dog. (For the hours that the front desk is closed, he is available for any emergency by telephone). Also, Tonti employees often bring their dogs to work, but they strictly stay in the back office. Lastly, under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), The Wedgewood Lodge will also accept service animals.

I also wanted to apologize about the hot tub quiet hours. You are absolutely correct, our on site manager does lock up at 10 every evening. Perhaps in this instance, the tub was occupied and while he did his rounds, he allowed some extra time. It is hard to say, but we sincerely do appreciate all of this feedback. We take it all to heart.

Now that you have been up here to hike, we hope to have you again. Perhaps this time around to ski. We are just a stones throw from the Snowflake Chairlift.

KInd regards,

Sarah

Made the reservation last minute online and was pleasantly surprised!! Wasn't used to the type of entrance ( a little unassuming ) but the facilities were perfect. Full kitchen and all!
Only downside might ( for us from warmer climates ) be that there was no central A/C - but a fan was enough as the temps were typical and cooled it just fine overnight.
Already have this as target for winter time trip!

I'm very confused by this lodge being rated as 4 star as I've stayed in plenty of 4 star hotels such as Hilton, Westin, Omni, etc. This was definitely not as nice as that, but the pictures on this website are pretty accurate and I was not surprised by anything once I got there. Granted we went in the low season and were only in town for 24 hours, but we never saw a staff person during our entire visit. We checked in at a normal time but there was no one in the lobby. Our keys and room assignment were in a basket on the front desk. Fortunately, we did not need any service during our stay so that wasn't necessarily a negative. The studio room was plenty big although quite dated and "motel-ish" from a decor standpoint. The beds and linens were very basic and not very comfortable. The sofa bed was terribly uncomfortable but that's usually the case with a sofa bed so not surprising. It was nice to have the fridge for kids' milk and although we had no need for the full kitchen, I can see where that would be nice if we were staying longer. The indoor "hot tub" was more like a small warm indoor pool and the outdoor hot tub was not even warm enough to be pleasant in 60 degree weather. I can't imagine using it when it's cold outside. The location was very good as we could walk to town and if it was winter we would be able to walk to a lift. Overall I would stay there again due to the price and the good value and I would recommend it as long as you aren't truly expecting a 4-star hotel experience.

Wanted to get away from the city on Memorial Day weekend and booked at the Wedgewood last minute. I was very pleased with everything. Great location, friendly-helpful staff, clean well equipped rooms with full kitchen, underground parking... I could go on & on. It was perfect for a family of four. Usually we don't care too much about where we are staying as long as it is clean and a place to put our stuff; but we found we spent a good bit of time in the room relaxing and spending quality family time together. Great place!

Room Tip: 3rd floor with mountain view.

Wedgewood has the best location right opposite the Snowflake Chair Lift but was really quiet and perfect for couples. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were always there will recommendations and directions when I need them.
Charter Sports is opposite and I was able to leave my boots and ski there overnight. See Dave the Manager there who will give you a 30% discount if staying at the Wedgewood.
There's a big roaring fire in the lounge, a hot tub and a library full of books and games, so everything was covered. I stayed here for almost three weeks and will definitely go back there again.

Room Tip: A quiet location so you shouldn't have a problem with noise here.
