“Great Resort, No Question!”

Mountain Thunder Lodge

This resort deserves the title of "best in Breckenridge". We stayed the weekend of Nov 5th, 2005. We were greeted by lovely Mary at the front desk who could not have been more gracious and helpful. She let us pick which room we liked best by letting us check out two different rooms with different views. The lobby is totally western feeling, a big fireplace, wide plank floors, very rustic and charming, and totally inviting.
The hallways are carpeted in a rich maroon colored carpet, the room doors have very charming doors, and outside each door is a quaint lamp shaded sconce. A very nice touch. We stayed in the one bedroom which was large and comfortable, complete with full kitchen, gas fireplace, and sleep sofa. The hotel is in walking distance (just two blocks) from the very charming main street. This is a place that has been fiercely protected from overgrowth and overexpansion and what a geat job the zoning board has done in preserving the town. The only "chain" shop we found was Starbucks, but a very covert one. You will enjoy the shops and restaurants and just strolling along enjoying the mountain air and the magnificent views. Don't hesitate to book here.

Our family just returned from a week stay at Mountain Thunder Lodge.

We stayed in a two-bedroom condo; full kitchen, two baths, dining, living room, and deck. We were in Building No. 5, on the second floor; parking garage is heated below each building; very nice. Laundry facilities are on each floor and easily accessible.

Currently, construction of more Mountain Thunder condos is ongoing, and there is public road construction in progress at the entry drive. Construction of the new condos is scheduled for completion in Fall of 2006. Construction is from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays.

DON'T LET THIS SCARE YOU AWAY! The accommodations were exceptional; plenty of space, very tastefully decorated, and clean. Mountain Thunder is the one of the newest properties, if not the newest, in Breckenridge, which DOES make a big difference; we looked at other Breckenridge properties while we were there, and none were as nice.

The staff was extremely helpful; they offered to put us up in their sister property (Village at Breckenridge) if the construction was a problem; we decided to stay at Mountain Thunder, and were not disappointed. The construction was not an issue. The staff were also very helpful in arranging shuttles, day trip advice, activities, local services, etc.

Access to downtown is within easy walking distance, and there is a Kroger grocery a block away; very convenient.

There is no air conditioning in the rooms; in Breckenridge, this is not a problem; average temperature in July (hottest month) is 70 degrees, with no humidity; we opened the windows, and were good to go.

When we return to Breckenridge next year, we will definitely stay at Mountain Thunder.

July 17-20, 2005. A nice condo, but not a number one rated resort. The heat in the rooms that bothered people in the winter is as bad in the summer. They do not have air conditioning. There is construction noise on three sides. The summer climate forced us to open the windows, but the noise outside was oppressive. The pool is right next to giant machines beeping, grinding and polluting the air with thick black exhaust. Workers are 20 feet away from the pool with green plastic sheets covering the fence between, but not keeping out their activities. The condos have base board heaters with no circulation so there will never be a solution to the heating/cooling problem. Our condo did not even have ceiling fans to move the air! We had a table fan in our closet. We went to bed in the 80 degree room and woke up all night adding covers and closing windows while the outside temperature dropped into the 40’s. The elevators were out of order. On a positive note, the people at the resort were nice and helpful, suggesting solutions and recommending activities. They offered to move us to “sister properties.” The rooms were immaculate. The location is walking distance to town. There are multiple public parking lots in town so driving to town is convenient. I can’t see how this resort has a top rating in Breckenridge.

During our recent stay, we could not have asked for better service and accomodations. The room was lovely, the staff was great and we will definately stay here again. I promise you won't be disappointed with your stay. Being able to walk to town was a definite plus and if you are ever are here during the 4th of July, the view of the fireworks can't be beat!

“beware of ongoing construction!”

We checked into Mountain Thunder lodge, after I did alot of research and decided this property would be the best for my family's vacation. The property is beautiful, and the unit we booked was great. My kids loved the pool, and it was central and a great location in Breckenridge for biking, hiking, alpine slide, dining, shopping, etc..
But BEWARE!!! The hotel is doing two major construction projects, one that started at 7 a.m. on SATURDAY, and went ALL DAY!! I am talking gravel-dumping, excavation, drilling, back-hoe beeping, ...the whole contruction was so loud, that the only peace one could get was to close the windows, and being July, that made the condo hot. (THere is NO air conditioning). Monday morning, same thing. The management was sympathetic, but couldn't do much, they have two different construction projects going, one out front and one by the pool, so ask before booking!!
