“Good Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2013

But, the cleaning needs to be a bit better and more prompt. I know you were busy, but after our first night we were out of the room from 10am until 3pm and our room was not touched. The next day we got our bed made and the bathroom was cleaned, but the floor had not been vacuumed and it was a pretty mediocre job.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for staying at the DoubleTree in Breckenridge during your ski trip and reviewing our property. The timing of our housekeeping service has been brought to the attention of our managers before and something I have been working with the Director of Housekeeping on to improve. I am sorry that this service was not up to your expectations, but appreciate your comments so the hotel can improve on this for the future.

My wife and I just spent 5 days at the Breckenridge Double-Tree Hilton property. In summation, it was a very unsatisfying (awful) hotel experience. Furthermore, as a Diamond-level Hilton Honors member who travels the planet, I shall award this property the dubious distinction as being “the worst Hilton I’ve stayed at, world-wide.” Quote me on that, please.
Hilton proudly proclaims that this property has undergone a complete renovation of all 208 guest rooms, meeting rooms, event space and public areas. They state the hotel offers guests one of the largest venues in town accommodating up to 450 guests.
Pros:
-Proximity to Breckenridge village, Main Street shops, and ski slopes
- Fairly spacious rooms
- Courtesy shuttle
-Dogs allowed
Cons:
-Beyond a doubt, the worst problem with this atrocity of a hotel, was the fact that they have one (1!!)…yes…. 1 elevator. And, if your room is above the 7th floor, you must walk across a wing to access yet another, pitiful, solitary (yes, 1) elevator. This is exacerbated by the fact that there are no service elevators for the staff. That is, the porters, room service, house-keeping, and hotel guests… all wait/share/wait/share/wait/share this one, morose elevator. What happens when it breaks? Make your guests climb 10 stories after skiing all day? Outrageous!!!
Average wait time: 5-15 minutes per elevator.
If this joint was newly renovated, how in God’s name did they not do a logistics & feasibility study on how to quickly, safely, and efficiently move 450 guests to their rooms?
-The restaurant shares the same fate as their solitary elevator. The space is too small to accommodate 208 rooms/450 potential guests. Every morning there are very long lines of people waiting to give their names just to get seated (by the main entrance, where the proximity sensor on the doors keeps them open, allowing 15 degree temperatures to wake you up, rather than coffee!). Once you actually make it to your table, you’ll probably to have to remind the lethargic staff to restock food bins. The kitchen staff are very inattentive to cleaning the food serving areas, and re-supplying the empty chafing dishes (no warming candles underneath), so whatever cold morsels of egg and coagulated bacon are left, you’ll have the joy of paying $23 for it.
Average wait time to get seated: 15 - 20 minutes

-Valet parking. (Or not) After the first day, when it took them 40 minutes to get my car, I told the manager that I wasn’t going to pay the ridiculous $20/day “Resort Fee” that supposedly justifies the Valet parking and free shuttle service.
Average wait time: 10-40 minutes
-Courtesy Shuttle: Once again, although this was listed as a “Pro”, the fact that they just ran one (1) shuttle for potentially as many as 450 guests, rendered it fairly useless.
-Edifice and decor: The hotel hallways and my room color/décor, which can only be described as “early penitentiary”, were very depressing. The hallways and rooms smelled musty/moldy, perhaps from constant snow melting from ski boots into the carpets. My room’s one window had a long crack in it, marring the beautiful view of the mountain. However, since A/C wasn’t available, I had to keep the window cracked to lower the stifling temperature in my room. Also, I doubt the HVAC system had any type of humidifier to mitigate the dryness of their heating system. During the night, whilst trying to sleep, my wife’s nose was bleeding from the lack of moisture in the air. I finally got a Humidifier from the staff to help get some moisture in the room.
The option for “Hotel Services” on my television wasn’t working. I told the Reception desk staff (all inexperienced teenagers), and they said “gee, that’s weird, we’ll send a technician up to fix it”. When the technician came to my room, he told me that it “never worked”, and will probably never be functional (all channels analogue, not digital). So, of course, to view your daily expenses and charge Folio, you’ll have to ride the lone ”elevator from hell” down to the lobby.
The wireless internet was excruciatingly slow- when it actually worked at all (intermittent for hours).

The bottom line here is that Hilton has taken an old property, in a prime location, and advertises it as a full-amenity resort, even though it blatantly lacks the basic requirements needed to facilitate their guests in the most rudimentary fashion.

If it wasn’t for charming Breckenridge and the magnificent, snow-laden Rockies providing a panoramic, tourist-rich location, this property, thus riddled with sub-par service and lacking the basic fundamentals like elevator/restaurant capacity, would be graded a 2-star facility (at best) anywhere else in the civilized world.

Rather than actually spending the money necessary to update and accommodate the sheer volume of guests they lure in, Hilton has opted to put “lipstick on the pig” through glossy, misleading advertising. In no way should this be considered a “resort hotel”.

Please do not charge almost $400/night for this imaginary “resort status”.

The only "resort" here is the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains and the charm of Breckenridge...and they’re free.

Final thought: This property should be razed to the ground and rebuilt to Hilton standards.

Room Tip: Make sure you request a working humidifier

Dear Guest,
Thank you discussing your experience at the DoubleTree in Breckenridge. What you encountered during your trip was not the DoubleTree standard that we strive to deliver at our property and I apologize that we couldn't elevate your lodging experience. The property was originially designed as a tiered structure and the elevators are an issue our engineering team has been working to resolve. The restaurant has undergone some changes since your stay as well because our team recognized that we could improve that aspect of our operation to increase the satisfaction of all our customers. During peak season the restaurant tends to get busy, along with our shuttle service, but we have been trying to create alternative solutions such as our Grab 'N Go breakfast area to mitigate the longer wait times in the morning. Thank you again for commenting about the DoubleTree in Breckenridge, your feedback is greatly appreciated.

The restaurant staff definitely needs improvement. Expect to wait on yourself and expect very average food. The restaurant is very small and has difficulty accomodating the guests, though I think after the first day, you learn not to eat in the hotel unless you have to. Hotel has an odd layout but is in the perfect location to the lifts.

We have stayed at this Doubletree property numerous times and like it quite a bit since it is right near the Beaver Run Chair Lift at the ski resort. The rooms are great and the staff is very friendly. We always take our dogs when we stay at this Doubletree and they are always welcome.

The downside of this hotel is the elevator situation. I guess it was a former condo property and the elevators were not planned out very well. If you stay above floor 7 you have to take 2 elevators to reach your room. The elevator is small and there is only one, so you will most likely have to wait on an elevator during peak hours and days.

Overall, a great property and we will be back!

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your kind words about the DoubleTree in Breckenridge. The elevators are a bit of a bother at times, and something that our management team is aware of, but we were happy to hear that it didn’t take away from the wonderful experience you had at our property!

Just had a first time trip to Breck. We had a great time staying at Double tree. Cannot understand the bad review. The staff were great, very patient and nice. The hotel is very close to the lift (Peak 9) and it is about 8-10 min walk to Main street, where the shopping centers and restaurants are. Ski rental/storage staff were very helpful and kind.
Over all, we had a great time.
We saw some guests were very anxious about everything, yelling at staff unreasonably. Cannot understand it is vacation folk, Chill Out!

Room Tip: HHonor rooms has free ATT wifi internet.

Let me start with what was actually positive about my experience at the the DoubleTree, Breckenridge. The location is superb!!!!! You can walk directly across the street to Peak 9 and ski right down to the chairlift. Also, unlike the other reviewers, I found the employees to be extremely friendly. That being said, the hotel is clearly understaffed and had many issues!!!!! #1. The walls are paper thin. You feel like the people walking in the hallway are actually in your room. #2. The ski valet kept losing my ski's. Both days I had to wait over 50 minutes for them to locate my ski's; Not good if you actually want to be on the mountain instead of in the parking lot of the DoubleTree!!!!!! #3. I overheard several complaints about the slow service in the restaurant, although we never actually dined there. Even though we are gold members, we were never given any breakfast vouchers. Overall, this was the worst Hilton property I have experienced to date. I would recommend looking at some of the other hotels located at Breckenridge.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your remarks about your recent stay at the DoubleTree. Our ski valet service is new for this season and we have been working to resolve any “glitches” in the system. The fact that this service is new to the property is no excuse for your lodging experience to suffer, and I am sorry for that inconvenience. The Hilton Honors breakfast has also been changed for our Gold and Diamond members recently because of the feedback we received from our guests. Thank you for complimenting the staff as well, the whole team works extremely hard to go above and beyond for all of our guests and provide a welcoming atmosphere at the hotel. Thank you again for your comments, we look forward to seeing you again at the DoubleTree.

This was our first stay at a DoubleTree property (we usually stay at other Hilton properties) and saw the convenience to the slopes and value for the price and booked our stay. What an awesome location across from the ski lift and just a few blocks from Main Street in Breckenridge. They had DIY s'mores each evening from 4-6 after the slopes closed and the rooms were very large and the beds extremely comfortable. We stayed through Christmas Eve and had fresh snow everyday including 8-10" on our last day skiing. We definitely will come back again and stay and highly recommend for couples and families.
