“Best tv ever in a hotel, and strictest smoking policy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

If you're a non-smoker and want to be close to the university, this is great. We chose this hotel at the last minute because other reviews warned about the location for those of us not familiar to the area. They were right, poor location. Otherwise, a high quality hotel. We didn't smoke as it was our last night before heading home from Estes Park, but if I were someone who needed to smoke, I would stay far from this hotel. You who are adamant non-smokers may be in paradise as smoking on balconies is forbidden. Decent breakfast included.

This is an older, remodeled hotel. So, it is a bit of a mish-mash. The beds are super comfortable, and the bathroom vanity area is very nice, and everything was very clean; but the heat/air unit blows loudly (but heats up quickly!), the sliding glass doors are scary, and the bathroom toilet/shower area is nothing special. Here on business, so certainly comfortable for the purpose. Avoid the breakfast;the continental set up is provided in a tiny room, overcrowded, and if you are a germaphobe the buffet is a nightmare. Grab a cup of Keurig coffee in your room and a yogurt or fruit, but leave the waffle batter that has been stirred up by countless coughing kids alone - there are lots of chain and independent places to get a bite that will be much more satisfying. The best part of the stay was by far the staff. They are pleasant, energetic, and more than happy to help you with anything you need. We had a last minute meeting that necessitated a late check out, and the request was honored with no issues. Would stay here again just because the staff made a difference. Thank you!

Room Tip: Since this is motel style, may want to ask for a room on the second floor.

I wouldn't normally stay at a Best Western, but the info about it online said it had just been remodeled, and the pictures looked really nice. When we got there, it looked very cheap. The carpeted stairs in the hallway looked like they had never been vacuumed. Only parts of the room were actually remodeled, and poorly done at that. In the shower the hot was cold and the cold was hot. We also had a door in our room adjoining our room to the one next door, which I did not want. When the people in the room next door had their TV on, I could make out what the person on the TV was saying because the walls were so thin. We cut our stay short and moved to a better hotel which ended up costing less money.

Hi,
Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. In February of this year, the Bolder Inn received the prestigious Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence. This award, which is given to only 10% of the hotels reviewed on this site, is based upon the experiences of travelers worldwide. I’m sorry to hear your expectations and experiences were unlike those of your compatriots. I hope that we can turn this into a positive experience. If you would like to contact me directly, I would love to discuss your stay.

Great staff, clean and helpful everytime I have stayed there. There is a warm breakfast and in the warmer months you can bike to Pearl streets for lots of yummy restaurants and shops. Pool, sauna and hot tub too!

Hi,
It is energizing to hear of a guest embracing everything our hotel and town have to offer. I’m thrilled to hear that you were able to take advantage of our free bikes. Cycling is a way of life in Boulder, and what a great way to explore the vibrant downtown area. There are so many delightful shops, locally owned restaurants, and entertainment venues located on Pearl Street. Also, thank you for bringing attention to our cleanliness. It is wonderful when a guest acknowledges our efforts to go above and beyond in the area of hygiene. Our top priority is to provide the cleanest room possible. If your travel plans bring you back to Boulder, please feel free to contact me directly.

I did not feel this was a 3+ star hotel. The building is like an older motel with each room having a sliding glass patio door out to the parking lot. We were disappointed there was not a restaurant or lounge on the premises. It could use some improvements with sound-proofing...we could hear our neighbors and the people above us. On the positive side, the rooms are beautifully updated and a nice size. It was very clean. The free breakfast had a large selection of items, not just pastries. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We paid $50 for one night here (did the name your own price option on Priceline), so I felt we got a decent value. I would have been disappointed if I had paid full price.

Hi,
Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. Your quote “the rooms are beautifully updated” was extremely kind. We know and understand that our guestroom is your home away from home. We spend a great deal of time creating a warm and inviting environment that is also modern and design conscious. The great industrial designer Dieter Rams once said “"Good design is thorough down to the last detail." It took us 31 catalogs, 28 samples, 6 purveyors, and over one year to pick out the pattern and material for our drapes. Design is such an important concept at the Boulder Inn, and we really appreciate that you noticed.

Still don't know exactly what "plus" means but I'll say this… We were very pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness, updated decore and overall very nice accommodations (especially for a BW property). Will most definitely stay there again! Very courteous service and great value given its location to CU campus and community of Boulder.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on the second floor overlooking the pool facing West... Great view of the Flatirons!

Over a year ago, Best Western International introduced tiers to our brand. The Boulder Inn was extremely honored to be designated a “Best Western Plus”. We are one of only a few in the state of Colorado. Being a “Plus” puts great pressure on us to exceed guest expectations every daily.

Thank you for noting the courteous service and close proximity to the University of Colorado. If your travel plans bring you back to Boulder, please feel free to contact me directly.

The staff really is as friendly as most other reviewers mention ... they were very helpful anytime I had a question. Overall, this hotel was in a great location (though a little tricky to get to), I was happy to find the outdoor pool was heated and we could use it even at the end of September, price seemed on the high side but I think is fairly competitive with others in the area. It was fairly quiet. There was a good variety at breakfast. Rooms are 100% smoke free which is one of the first things I look for when selecting a hotel. The hotel had obviously gone through some updating, but you could still tell the building and rooms seemed fairly old. Beds and linens seemed very clean. After enough walking around on the carpet though our socks were getting dirty. One morning there was no hot water, and there was not enough room in the breakfast area. The worst issue was there was a definite musty smell in parts of our room - it seemed like it was strongest near the mini-fridge, so not sure if there had been a leak at some point in the past (I didn't complain about this smell since moving rooms with all of our stuff was going to be too big a hassle).

Anyway, despite the few things we didn't like, I've still given 4 because staff was great, it was a very convenient location, and based on just driving past some other area hotels and looking at online pricing, I'm not sure there is much else this quality or better unless you take a big jump up in cost.

Thank you for calling attention to our friendly staff. This past year the Boulder Inn won an international customer service award. The Champion Award in Customer Care was presented to our General Manager by Best Western CEO David Kong in front of 3000 fellow hoteliers. The award was the culmination of years of rigorous training, and team building. We are very proud of our superior customer service.

If your travel plans bring you back to Boulder, please feel free to contact me directly.
