Alba is off the typical track for restaurants in Boulder. It is in the shopping center which McGuckins is a neighbor. But whether you dine indoors, or outdoors, it is an oasis. Weather permitting, I highly recommend the outdoor seating.
Alba has a very nice happy hour menu which you can snack on or make a dinner off it. Pizzas are very nice, the mixed salad is wonderful...and the salvia (fried sage leaf with anchovy) is addictive. My wife hates anchovies, but loves the salvia. Items may change. The meatballs in pomodoro sauce were excellent...The sauce was slightly spicy and with a little bread made a great small course.
As usual, we mixed the happy hour menu with the main menu. The poached pear with polenta (listed as an appetizer) could also serve as a dessert. Very good. A nice touch is they often serve half-portions of their pasta dishes. The nettle pasta with Kobe beef and pork ragu
is a real delight.
Alba experienced a chef change in the past year and has not missed a beat. They have wine dinners nearly monthly and offer a nice prix fixe.
We have seen the service staff turn over quite a bit in the last year, but they are able to continue to hire qualified and friendly servers. That is a unique capability. Whether it is the hiring or training it works well.
