“This place was fantastic!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2008

I just stayed at this guesthouse last weekend for a medical conference. The staff was phenomenal, the room fantastic (working fireplace!!), breakfast homemade and delicious. I encourage anyone who considers a stay here to go for it.

This inn appears to have recently changed hands, and if our experience is in any way typical they will be out of business soon. Problems started at checkin, when the only person onsite on Saturday afternoon was a teenager, who said he had no record of our reservation, despite our receiving an acknowledgment from Expedia. Despite that, we got the room we wanted, which was very nice - a two-room suite with a King bed. The next morning, we had the worst breakfast I've ever had at a "bed and breakfast". Despite a schedule of 8 AM to 10 AM (for Sunday), when we arrived in the dining room at 9 AM, everything seemed to be finished for the day, with only cereal and bagels available. When we noticed the sign announcing crepes, we asked the owner (I presume that's who we was) for them, and grudgingly received them. My wife and I have stayed at many B&B's, and this was the worst, food-wise. They'd be better off calling it "small hotel with continental breakfast", because that's essentially what it was. After we checked out on Monday, my wife realized she'd left something behind. When we returned to retrieve it, the owner said we'd never left the key (we'd placed it in the basket marked "keys"). After much back-and-forth, the housekeeper pointed out to him that the key was on his desk, where she'd put it. She then had to retrieve the item herself, because he was "busy" on the phone. His demeanor throughout was surly and put-upon. Perhaps this attitude works in Romania, or Albania, or wherever he happens to be from, but it ain't gonna cut it in Boulder. Summary: the accomodations were fine; the staff, not so much.

My sisters, mom and myself all met in Boulder from all over the US. We booked 2 suites for a week in July 2007. It was wonderful. The rooms were the cleanest I've ever stayed in. Large bathrooms and closets. It was very quiet and peaceful there. The breakfast each morning was prepared by the owners and was always delicous. Fresh fruit, homemade granola, french toast, crepes just to name a few. The owners were delightful and friendly and helpful.

Are you looking for a Bigger room; Delicous Homemade Breakfast; Inn-keepers who care! The Lookout Inn Guest House even has Conference Rooms!
Our party of six could not believe we stumbled upon this place by accident. It is just on the north end of Boulder-- near the Country Club, The Leanin' Tree Museum and Celestial Seasonings Factory.
The owners live on site and give the special home treatment. The rooms were immaculately kept and maid service was provided--daily!
Great place for a small business meeting; family event or an extended stay!

We were pleasantly surprised to find this gem outside of Boulder. It had everything we wanted and more!! The rooms were very clean and well-furnished. The owners have been there for 2 years and are continuing to make great improvements. "Jack", one of the owners makes a special breakfast entree every day, hot for each guest. Breakfast is included in the price and very worth it. Besides the hot entree, there was cut fresh fruit every morning. And it was not bananas and apples, it was pineapple, kiwi, strawberries, etc. The fruit changed every day. There was also fresh coffee, milk, juice, HOMEADE granola, yogurt.

They were exceptionally hospitable, and very helpful.

  • Liked — Cleanilieness, friendliness, and the great breakfast!
  • Disliked — Surrounding area was office/residential.

The Lookout Inn is a charming collection of rooms set in a lovely landscaped garden. The garden gives it the feel of a much fancier hotel, but at a fantastic price!

Inside, the rooms are huge and spotless, and homey. The owners are very pleasant and friendly folk, who will go out of their way to make your stay comfortable (for example, welcoming you to come to the dining room early if you have an early morning flight)

Previously, we had stayed for a few days at another "famous name" hotel chain and it was nowhere near as good (It had thin walls, was impersonal, and it was kind of stuck in the middle of a field.)

In contrast, the Lookout Inn was the best of old-fashioned hospitality, with a lovely setting, terrific rooms, plus great value.

An undiscovered gem! Highly recommended!

From:
Bill and Maureen in Blackstone, Massachusetts.

During our recent and 1st visit to Boulder, where our daughter was attending a class at the University, my wife and I decided to stay at the Lookout Inn. It's located in a residential, secure, and quite area immediately outside of downtown yet it took only about 5 - 10 min to get to the heart of the city via the Expressway. Since we were on vacation, not only did we spend time in Boulder in the evenings, but we also visited a winery, Celestrial Season's Tea Company, and The Leaning Tree Museum which were within a mile or so of the Inn. In addition, there is a food market and other stores conveniently located within 1/2 mile of the Inn. Suffice it to say that the Inn location is excellent.

The Inn is run by a "Polish Couple" who really work hard to make you feel comfortable. The Inn facility resembles that of a motel with several excellent rooms (some with mini kitchen facilities) directly attached to the Inn House Proper. Whoever built the Inn didn't skimp on materials or workmanship as evidenced by the quality construction and fine wooden materials.

As indicated, the Inn Keepers work hard to make you feel welcomed. Each morning, the husband is available to personally prepare your breakfast or you can choose the items like cereal, fresh fruit, muffins, etc that are there for the taking. The breakfast eating area is outstanding! It consists of a large, well decorated room, with about 8 small tables not to mention a great leather sofa that you can relax on if you simple want to read the morning paper and have some coffee. Soft classical music was playing each morning that enhanced the relaxed environment. This "Breakfast Room" is also available to guests all day so people are free to stop in any time to get a free drink like soda or tea, a homemade cookie, ice, etc. Guests have a key to this room in case the Inn Keepers are out and you want to partake in some of the drink or food items.

Besides the Breakfast Room, there were also two nicely appointed small conference rooms in the event that you are on business and want a place to meet with clients and / or business associates.

So in summary, my wife and I STRONGLY suggest that you give this Inn a try if you ever visit Boulder for pleasure or business reasons. I frequently travel on business and have been to places ranging from Bejing, China to Paris, France. Believe me when I say that the service and facility at the Inn is 1st rate!

P.S. The cost per evening is certainly NO more that what you would pay at one of the large chains like Mariott or Hilton.
