I booked the St. Julien for my friend and I who live across the country from each other. We had a girlfriend getaway weekend, and we wanted to stay in a nice place with a spa. While this hotel was indeed very nice, we were disappointed, having just stayed at a cleaner, nicer and cheaper hotel in Vail the days prior. St. Julien was overpriced, in our opinion. Our room had a strange smell, so we left our balcony door open until we went to sleep. I will say, though, that the view of the mountains out our balcony was very nice! We noticed that the hotel was not as clean as the one we had just stayed in. There were cobwebs in the bathroom, and a lot of dust on a window ledge in the bathroom. It's that attention to detail that makes a difference for me. The hotel did not provide free breakfast. We ate at Jill's there in the hotel, and were really unimpressed. It was pretty much the same breakfast we had been receiving free in Vail, and that you receive free at many hotels these days. It was disappointing. We did take advantage of the regular massage treatment in the spa, and we were both pleased. Neither of us regularly go to one, so we don't have much to compare to, but we both thought it was great! It was a nice hotel, but I don't think it's worth the $$. I would probably want to check out other places in Boulder before I'd stay here again.

The St Julien is a cool hotel with a modern vibe. The decor is beautiful and minimalist - if this hotel was smaller it would be a swanky boutique. The problem is that it is huge. Every day the hotel is packed with guests but that aside the food, wine list in the restaurant and the rooms (fairly large) are all great. Check out their on site restaurant (Jill's) - great deals from 5-7pm (half off everything)

“Attentive staff provides great service”

We were amazed at the cleanliness of this beautiful, vast location. The whole place smells of sage and rosemary, there are hardwood floors and ambient lighting.

It turned out to be a great experience, but it didn't start out that way....We checked in our party of 4 at noon and were told the room (a suite at $436 a night) would be ready at 2pm. I advised the desk manager that we had 4 people, as I had made the reservation back in May and I had called several times just to confirm.

We returned at 2pm, and entered the suite expecting to find that it had been set up for 4 people. It was not. We had to call for towels and toiletries and then tip the staff who brought them.
- The remote on the TV did not work as the batteries were dead
- The shower handle to the shower door was broken.

The kicker was when we returned from a night at the Pearl street mall we were a bit miffed by the one bathrobe, one mint and one bottle of water that had been laid out on the bed. What if it were me and 3 children? Would I be expected to divide that mint into 4?

I jotted down all this on a piece of there stationery and went down to talk to the desk manager that I spoke to when we arrived. I made suggestions for improvement of their service and also advised that they should do maintenance checks while they are cleaning the room, not after someone complains. Enya reviewed my concerns and strongly agreed that since I reserved a suite for 4, confirmed a suite for 4, that we should have received a suite that was set up for 4 people. She also stated that they should have caught the maintenance issues before we arrived. The shower handle was a definite safety issue. She said she would review and act on my suggestions and review my bill as well.

That night and for the rest of our stay it got better. There were 4 mints, 4 bottles of water and they didn't bother to put out the bathrobe (since there were only 2 anyway).

It took their maintenance men 3 trips to the room before the shower handle was fixed. Apparently they were all checking water pressure instead (perhaps not reading the order?)

Anyway, in the end Enya made it worth our while, as our bill was comped in return for my suggestions.

The rooms are well insulated, you don't even hear anything else. The sauna was absolutely GREAT! The lap pool was a MUST do! All in all this place was a great experience. NICE PLACE!

“Relaxing Getaway”

I had a fantastic stay at the St Julien Hotel and Spa on a business trip in July. The staff was attentive from check in to check out and I would definitely stay there again my next time in Boulder.
I had a few friends also staying at the hotel so I was able to check out a variety of rooms. The room I was staying in was handicapped accessible, so it was very roomy and there was a lot of space to spread out. I had a nice veranda overlooking the courtyard and it was the perfect place to read and relax. Since I did have a handicapped room, I did not have the separate shower and soaking tub. If I had to book it again, I think I would prefer to have the separate tub. Although, all of my friends with the larger bathroom did not have the veranda, while others who had the handicapped bath did have one.
I had an issue with my shower one morning and the staff arrived to my room within minutes to show me how to work it. They had a turndown service every night (complete with chocolate cookies on the bed and soothing music). The spa robes and slippers were a nice touch. Just a warning - the beds are VERY soft, so those with back problems might have some issues.
They had some other nice amenities including free bike rental and concierge service (he gave us some good tips on where to eat, the food in Boulder is great). I did have the opportunity to have a few drinks at the hotel bar, which were very reasonably priced. They also have a popular Happy Hour on Friday evenings.
I did not have the time to use the spa - although, I did think it was a little overpriced ($110 for a massage, $100 for a cocktail pedicure).
As far as the business end is concerned, they had nice meeting facilities. They also had free high speed internet in each of the rooms that was actually high speed!
I would definitely stay at the St Julien again for its great location and the excellent customer service at the hotel.

“Absolutely beautiful”

St. Julien's is now at the top of my list of favorite places to stay. First, Boulder is such a great town, and St Julien's is right in the heart of it. Only a block from the Pearl St. shopping area, and tons of great restaurants within walking distance. Then of course there's the hotel itself. It's so beautiful yet comfortable. The rooms aren't as big as some I've stayed in, but it was very well appointed with the mushiest bed ever! I had a view of the back courtyard and the mountains. The staff was very friendly and helpful as well.
I was in Boulder for a seminar hosted at the hotel, so while I'm sure I would have loved the evening entertainment if I'd been there on vacation, it did keep me up late on Friday night (and I had to catch the shuttle to Denver at 4:30 a.m. the next day!). The only other downside was that the hotel backs up to a busy street, which kind of messes with the ambiance a little but the rooms are well-insulated so there is very little street noise.
