I'm an adventurous eater, so I've been wanting to visit the Red Lion for quite awhile, and was jealous when my husband got to visit the venue last year for work. So this year, for my birthday, we made a special trip out to try it out.
While the venue overall is somewhat dated, it was comfortable and warm, and I enjoyed taking a brief glimpse of the creek that runs by the restaurant before going inside. (It was a bit cold this week, but I understand that during the summer you can grab a table by the water, underneath the tea lights, which is just awesome...I'd definitely like to go back when it's warmer for a night outside!)
We were greeted amicably, and seated in front of the fireplace - very cozy and romantic! Our server was attentive and helpful, and we settled in for an appetizer of fresh baked bread and a draft beer.
We both ordered the buffalo sirloin, and were not disappointed! The meat was cooked well, and was served with balanced sizes of potatoes and vegetables. The meat was perfectly seasoned, and the portions were well suited.
At this point, the only downside was a bit of decrease in attention: a large party was seated right behind us with the same server, so we were both done with our main course and drinks before our waiter was back. We don't blame him at all - it was just bad timing to have a large group in so early on an off-day.
We decided to skip desert in the end and just settle in with a glass of good wine. In front of the fire, it was a great way to finish out the evening.
In the end, we really enjoyed our visit! We gave it less than a perfect rating simply because the venue is in desperate need of an update. (I could have ignored the dining areas, but when I went to the restroom, I was really turned off by the gold spray-painted stalls that don't latch, as well as the 'college dorm room half ply' variety of bath tissue. It's the little things, eh?)
