We have eaten at upscale restaurants all over the country. The Kitchen is one of the best. Some highlights: The sweet corn flan with assorted fresh wild mushrooms was perfect. The flan had excellent texture, the variety of mushrooms (fresh and grown locally) was excellent. The flan was surrounded by a zippy balsamic based sauce which complemented the dish nicely without overwhelming. The tomato soup was simple, yet bursting with taste. Per our server (who was very knowledgeable about the menu and offered enthusiatic service) the soup consisted of local roma-type tomatoes simmered with onions for awhile and then cream added. They must have done something else to make it taste so good! The selection of other dishes was very tempting, and the menu changes nightly. They also serve breakfast, which we had the following morning, which consisted of expertly prepared eggs, pancakes and other breakfast favorites. I would go out of my way to return to Boulder to eat here again.

We hike in Boulder and eat at The Kitchen every week. It is outstanding! The menu is seasonal and the ingredients are mostly from local farms and purveyors. The food is delicious! The wine list is interesting and has some unusual wines. The Kitchen is a very fun spot to eat in and fast becoming one of Boulder's best restaurants.

We did the Banjo Billy's bus tour of Boulder (Be sure not to miss this) and on the tour he mentioned this restaurant had been rated in the top echelon of restaurants in Gourmet magazine.

The interior is small but cute. There is a bar when you enter and small tiles on the floor (some cracked). I loved the decor. The menu changes daily and we were too early for dinner. We arrived at about 3:30 pm. The menu selections were so interesting we had a hard time choosing. Hubbie got Penne Pomodoro ($11) and I had the Organic Chicken with Saffron Rice ($12). We started with cheese plate ($10), house olives ($4) and Tomato Soup ($5). All the appetizers were wonderful and fresh. There were two small slices of 3 types of cheese on the cheese plate. The tomato soup was awesome. Hubbie liked the Penne Pomodoro and the Organic chicken was good, even though it came with sauce that had A LOT of tomatoes (something not mentioned on the menu). It was good, but I would have gotten something else if I had known.

The crowning glory of the meal was the dessert. All desserts were $7. My husband had creme brulee which he said was great and I had the Sticky Toffee Pudding. This is a spice cake with melted toffee, served warm with a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream. MY MOUTH IS WATERING JUST THINKING ABOUT IT! If I was in the Denver area, I would make a special trip just for the Sticky Toffee Pudding. Yum Yum!
