“a tasty way to spend an hour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2012

Date of visit: Sat 4/14/12

There's a great opportunity to sample various tea flavors before the tours, if you arrive a little early. As you sip, be sure to take a look at some of the box design artwork on the walls and the fun tea-related art in the glass cases.

The tours start with a 15 minute video, followed by the 30 minute tour. BE SURE TO VISIT THE BATHROOM BEFORE THE VIDEO, because once you're in there, they warn you that all that tea you just drank might cause a problem for you during the tour, because there are no bathroom facilities once you leave the video. Go after their warning, and you miss the video.

This tour is ok for children, though be prepared to keep them by your side at all times. There's no room to run around or stray, the floors can be a little slick with tea dust, and there is machinery nearby.

There is a GREAT giftshop at the end of the tour - much bigger than the one before the tour starts, so wait til the end and save yourself the hassle of carrying it!

My only complaint was the tourguide. She was engaging, enthusiastic, knowledgable and really tried to make things fun by telling some jokes, but... her voice was SO high-pitched and theatrical that it was distracting us from what she was trying to say. I overheard other people saying the same thing. I know she probably loves her job, but I do think that companies need to hire tour guides that aren't going to make you not want to hear what they have to say. I feel bad for saying that... but it lessened the experience. If you go, you'll definitely know you had the same tour guide as I did by the time she's done introducing the video.

Definitely a worthwhile stop if you're in Boulder. Allow 45 mins for the tour, plus 15 mins to get there early for sampling ... and some time for the gift shop afterward.

“If you are in Boulder try and visit this place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2012

We were in Boulder and decided to visit celestial seasoning factory. It was a good trip for us as they were offering samples of all the varities of tea they house. We tried at least 10 different types before decideing to buy a few. The cost of buying was also much cheaper (20-25%) than in retail stores. We also had a factory tour. They showed us a video clip for 15 minutes, which was followed by a guided tour of the factory. Since we visited on a Sunday they did not have any machines in operation. Anyways, it was still OK becuase the actual tea is not made in the US but they import them from various countires like China, India, Brazil....and some countries in Africa. The only carry out packaging in the US and we have been told that Boulder is the only place where it happens for the celestial seasonings. Hope you get luck and get to try different blends of tea.

“Okay for a Saturday”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2012

Be forewarned, if you go on the tour on Sat or Sun, there will be no production going on. That means it is far less noisey, but also (in my opinion) less interesting. They do hawk the products a lot but kind of expected that. The guide was knowledgable and chatty. She did try hard to make it fun. This is a fun family activity. But try to go avoid the weekend. :)

“Interesting, great fun, lovely teas!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2012

I have been taking the Celestial Tea tour for over ten years and though it has evolved, it is always a good time. The story of the company traces it's roots from hippies gathering herbs on the hillsides of Boulder to the present where Celestial is part of a large corporation. The best part of the tour for me is the mint room - a surprising experience! The cafeteria has great food if you're hungry (and it's open) while you are there. And the gift shop has a wide variety of teas and other items including things from other small area companies (ie. Hammonds Candy). This is great for locals and tourists alike!

“Fun with the family”

Very interesting. Great gift shop. We took and learned a good deal. Right down the street from this is the Leaning Tree Museum, which is great too.
