“Charming, homespun & very economical”

Boulder is an expensive place to stay, and Foot of the Mountain is refreshingly economical (we paid $90 a night). If you're not looking for a top-of-the-line, pamper-me-like-i'm-a-princess type experience, you cannot go wrong with this charming little place. The rooms are perfect--cozy, extremely clean, with soft, clean linens and towels. I thought the wood paneling was fun and distinguished this from a chain hotel/motel. You've got a TV, wifi and are walking distance to Pearl Street and across from the creek, park and trails...what more could you want?? I thought it was nice that any breakfast was provided. Prepackaged, caloric muffins and pastries and instant oatmeal might not have been my first choice, but it was nice that they threw it into the package. And there was fresh fruit. The people who work there could not be nicer. If we go back to Boulder, I am sure we'll stay there again.

“Badly needs updating”

Foot of the Mountain Motel

We were disappointed in our stay here for three nights. Reading other reviews, I think reviewers are not looking at this property objectively.

First of all, the staff (you see only the front desk person, who changes often) is friendly. Sort of. That said, this place reminds me of what you would get if you stayed at one of those
$29.88 specials you see advertised on highway billboards. But we paid a lot more than that.

No air-conditioning, we stayed in August, they tell you during the day to keep the windows closed, drapes closed and fans on - pretty hot during the day, they are trying to keep the hot air out! So don't stay here in the summer if you are in the room during the day. They tell you to open the windows only at night. It does cool off at night, but not until about 3 AM!

But if you keep the back and front windows open at night, sort of poor security - you are on the first floor and anyone could just climb in the open back window from the woods/field while you are sleeping!? I don't like that staying with the family. Back window not working well anyway, sash fell sideways whenever you opened. One of the interior ceiling lights needed to see during the day or night was not working well, you had to yank on an overhead cord a dozen times to get it to work, reminds me of some old bare bulb shack fixture that no one ever gets around to fixing, cold water faucet very hard to turn, kids couldn't do it, bathroom sink separate spigots for cold and hot, so you either scalded your hands or only cold water, or else stopper the sink and fill it with a mix - just to wash hands after using the bathroom? Bathtub needs recaulking. Not really enough available outlets in the rooms for modern appliances (computer, cell phone charger, hair dryer, etc.). Sometimes not enough towels so you have to go to the office to ask for enough.

Continental breakfast mainly packaged Danish from a local convenience store, decaf only via packet, they say oatmeal, but they rarely have enough, apparently they are afraid to buy more than 10 portions at a time for the whole place so they run out on Monday and Tuesday (shopping day is Wed., they told me)(packets, no bowls, you have to eat out of a small styrofoam coffee cup). Hot chocolate mix out of a ketchup bottle dispenser, use only two squirts they say (they are trying to save money and don't want you to drink it full strength?). Juice means juicebox (like for kids - sweet clear mainly pear and apple based stuff, no orange juice) and they have a sign to just take one! Not allowed to have more than your single allotment of a juicebox in the morning! No place to eat breakfast, lobby very cramped, etc. No diner or stores nearby if you want to eat elsewhere, you have to drive. No coffee in room, have to wait until 7 AM when office opens, but coffee may not be ready even then for a while.

Highway nearby noisy during the day, people parking on street, so forget rural peace and quiet. Out back, there is a big hill, but it is private property, apparently, there is a private house there. You won't want to sit out back anyway because it is mainly brown, dead grass and dirt, bad smell. I could go on...

Creek across the street crowded on weekends, watch out tubing, we actually tried it and too many rocks for the kids, we all got banged and bruised.

Boulder is neat and you should go and check out the Pearl street shopping walkway between 9th and 15th. Great mediterranean restaurant at about Walnut and 10th street, great happy hour there. But you don't need to stay in Boulder just to see Boulder. If hotels are too pricey, you might stay at another community nearby. There are many communities nearby, Broomfield is 12 miles away with a nice shopping suite and Jason's Deli salad bar is awesome.

So...basically, I like quaintness but they need to put a little money in the place so it works, not just paint the doors red and leave it at that. For the same price, the previous three days we stayed in a brand new Hampton Inn in Denver that was way more comfortable, cool, great breakfast, modern fixtures, etc. So staying at this place was more like camping out. But as long as trip advisor reviewers just give it rave reviews because of the sort-of friendly front desk clerks people will continue to be fooled.

“Great Place, Unless You Want Fancy”

Foot of the Mountain Motel

Jul 25, 2008

If you want fancy, this isn't the place, but my family loved it here.

The motel is right across the street from a public park through which Boulder Creek runs. In the summer you can tube down the creek. Also going through the park is a walking path that takes you along the creek to 9th street -- just a few blocks from Pearl Street.

The room was clean and well cared for, even if it is a little old. The staff could not have been nicer.

I'd stay there again in a heartbeat.

We stayed here for three nights in May. For hiking the location was great as you could do some hikes starting from the hotel. Also, the river below is nice. The staff were great and the motel was nice and clean. I rate this only average, because it is in fact, an older rustic property with charm -- but not what people might think of as a five star hotel. If you are comfortable with a motel of this style and age, I would highly recommend it.

I was planning a trip to Denver and decided to stay in Boulder for the duration of my two weeks in Colorado. I find Foot of the Mountain Motel and it's staff to be helpful and also delightful.

Brigette, who happens to be the manager of the motel did all she could to make my stay enjoyable. As for the other staff members their services were satisfactory. (Way to go Brigette!)

I would strongly recommend The Foot of the Mountain as a place to stay while in Boulder Colorado.
