“Great family vacation away from technology”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2011 via mobile

Cottages are cute and perfect for a vacation away from it all. No tv,no phones. Just peace and quiet. We spent the weekend with our kids 7&8 in cottage 411. 1 bedroom with 1 sofa sleeper. Kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals in each day. Nice screened in porch to eat dinner and look out at the amazing views of the Flat Irons. We hiked and played tennis day each day. Great trails are perfect for beginners and kids. You most go for the views of Boulder. Picnicked
in the park and took the kids to the play ground. Nice Art Show this weekend. Close enough to our home in Denver yet away from it
all. We will be back!!

“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2011

My husband and I stayed in two separated cottages for the last two nights of our honeymoon. The cottages are so cute; they look much nicer inside than outside. Everything is modern, bright, super-clean, and green (recycling, etc.). Plus the location can't be beat; access to the Flatirons is a few steps away. The food in the dining lodge was great, too, although we only had one meal. This was a bit on the pricey side for us, but you really do get a lot for your money.

As a side note, I think the Chautauqua would be an excellent place for a family vacation. The cottages vary in size, and they even offer babysitting. Plus it's very quiet. We really liked it!

Room Tip: Reserve well in advance if you'd like a less expensive room.

“Love, love, love the Chautauqua”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2011

It was my second trip to Chautauqua and a first for my friend. We rented cottage number 211 - a 2 bedroom 1 bath on a dead end near the dining hall.
If you want lots of modern amenities like air conditioning, television and telephone this is not the place for you.
If you want a charming home to relax in for a few nights while enjoying the screen porch, watching kids play, hearing the Colorado Music Festival offerings drift over, and to enjoy a step back in time but with modern amenities like running water, electricity, a full kitchen, WiFi, hiking the Flatirons right out the door, and walking to Pearl Street Mall, this place is great.
There's no housekeeping during your stay, but you can exchange your towels/linens at the laundry if you want. Minimum stays vary. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for a cottage with an attic fan - cooled the place down in the HOT weather!

“What a treasure!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2011

When my husband and I travel, I always try to find places to visit and to stay that are not cookie cutter corporate chains. I just chanced upon the Boulder Chautauqua. This place, on the National Register of Historic Places, is an absolute gem. We spent three nights in the Columbine Lodge. Amazing value ... under $80 a night for a clean, spacious, bright room with a well-equipped kitchenette in this beautiful, beautiful historic place. Even if you don't stay at the Chautauqua, if you go to Boulder you should visit there. All the buildings, which have all been beautifully maintained and restored, are from the early 20th century. The grounds are beautiful, and there are great hiking trails. I loved walking around the grounds and learning about the amazing history of this place. There is a concert hall and a dining room. You can visit their website for more info.

“Very bad management”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2011

CONS: My experience here has been dire. From the moment I showed up to reserve a room, incompetence followed everywhere. One receptionist asks: "Can we rent individual rooms in Columbine?" The other receptionist answers: "Uh, yes. That's how Columbine works." "Oh. I didn't know that."

It's absolutely fascist that they charge $15.00 to use the Wi-Fi. Paying for a "premium" package (I'm here on business) I still find the speed incredibly sub-standard; many graphics-intensive websites won't load at all.

I arrived late Sunday night. Finding the right building took me forever; there was no one on hand to assist me. Almost every street is one-way and the streets are neither marked nor lit in most places.

I was assured that every room has a "small kitchenette." There was no such kitchenette of any kind in my Columbine room.

PROS: this is by far the most beautiful location to stay in boulder assuming you have a car. Chautauqua park is an epic landscape. Just make sure you know exactly what you are getting, and expect to pay top dollar for very low quality internet.

Room Tip: cottages and "columbine" rooms VASTLY different. insist on seeing it.
