“One of Melbourne's Hidden Wonders - Abbotsford Convent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

An amazing oasis just outside Melbourne CBD on the banks of the Yarra river. Thriving village of artisans and creative small businesses operating within the grounds of a revived and saved convent. The large garden is kept as it would have been many years ago, absolutely stunning. On differing days there are markets and music, always great fresh food. Lentil as Anything was very unexpected, pay what you think is appropriate for nice vego meal, amazing! A place to take some well earned time out, lay under a tree, have a wine or check out the entire site. There is a great web site to check out what's happening, we can only say we enjoyed our afternoon thoroughly. Collingwood children's farm just down the lane.

“A great place to while away a few hours on a lazy Sunday!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

A leisurely walk along the riverside led us to the convent grounds and the Collingwood Children's Farm where our grandchildren enjoyed seeing the cows and horses and patting the sheep. Then to a brunch at one of the cafes - good food and service, well priced and kids sized burgers for the littlies. Something different and well worth the visit.

“Saturday Market, a community gathering around fresh produce”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

On the City fringe, the Convent is a lively ecumenical monthly gathering of fresh soul food & friendly faces enjoying seasonal treats. Market stalls in a godly setting, families & friends, could do with a NO Dog allowed policy. School food never tasted better or fresher! Get off your knees and treat yourslef.

“Reminiscing the past and enjoying the present :-)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

It was a beautiful sunny day in Melbourne and I decided to introduce my friend to the Abbotsford Covent, which is one of my favourite spots in Melbourne. The place has a lot to offer, such as varieties of eating places to choose, i.e. Convent Bakery, Lentil as Anything, St Helliers Cafe, Kappaya Japanese food and two pubs/bars, i.e. Shadow Electric Bar and Boiler Room, galleries/exhibition, shops where you can purchase items from the artists or wellbeing service from the practitioners.
Aside that, it is always great to explore the convent (indoor and outdoor).... we had so much fun exploring and see first hard how the community lives there... we enjoyed the different communal areas for the residents such as the Golden Lounge where the residents can sit back and relax, there is also a book exchange corner, etc. The outdoor garden is simply excellent for anyone who wants to have picnic, sit back and relax or lie down... the more creative and artistic visitors can also choose their own corner to do some sketching or drawing... writing poem, etc. We also see many kids enjoying themselves... running and playing at the beautiful garden...
This place has a great atmosphere and give you a glimpse of the past and provide even more for us to enjoy it a present. Indeed a gem when you want to get away from the city life and yet the place itself is in the city :-)

“A beautiful old setting that pays respect to its history and feeds you well.”

Delicious food, a tranquil setting and a very short stroll down to the Collingwood Children's Farm and some wonderful walks along the Yarra.
