“Family Winter Vacation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

Our family took a last minute spring break trip to Avon/Beaver Creek when our beach reservations got mixed-up......so glad we went!!

Hotel - cute lodge vibe, great heated garage parking, super convenient location to the Beaver Creek Resort via free shuttle, City Market grocery store close to grab quick food items for villa.
Rooms - We stayed in a smaller one bedroom villa which was tight but manageable. In order to stay in the larger bedroom villa, we had to pay an additional $50/night so we opted to just stay in the smaller room to avoid moving. Bathroom was very large which was a nice surprise. Balcony with grill was nice but very small.

We started each day later than most but would take mid day shuttle (stop across the street from hotel) to Beaver Creek resort area. Shuttle is very convenient, runs every 15 min or 30 min during the day. Kids loved the outdoor ice skating rink, rode gondola to mountain top (free if you are not wearing ski boots) to go tubing and play in the snow. Note: Free chocolate chip cookies are passed out daily at 3:00 pm via chefs in white jackets/hats at the bottom of the ski slopes. We did not ski as the trip was planned literally on Friday morning and we picked up kids Friday afternoon after school with our suburban packed for Colorado. Suitable snow clothes were purchased at Dick's Sporting Goods store in Denver in route to the hotel. Ski lessons run $230/person per day ($1000 for one day of skiiing for our family!) Plenty to do if you don't ski. Everyone would like to take lessons next time; we will be prepared!

After a full day outside, it was wonderful to go back to hotel and relax before dinner. One night we opted to buy steaks from the City Market and my husband grilled steaks for dinner. We don't like cooking while on vacation, but a bag of steamed veggies in the microwave and grilled steaks is a quick meal with zero clean up required. Food can be pricey at the BC Resort area, so having the kitchenette made it less expensive to grab bagel with cream cheese or waffle before leaving in the morning then eat at the BC Resort restaurants for lunch/dinner.

We are delighted to hear that you chose our resort for this last minute family getaway and that you were able to enjoy a lot of what the Vail Valley has to offer even for non-skiers. The shuttle that stops right across the street is very convenient for our guests that are skiing Beaver Creek. As you mentioned eating out in Beaver Creek area can get expensive, so having a grill and the kitchenette in the villas help alleviate some of the expenses that come with eating out every night. Thank you for your review and also again for choosing the Sheraton Mountain Vista for your family vacation and we hope to welcome you back in any future visits to the Vail Valley

The good part is how beautiful the area is! The hotel is located in Avon (a few minutes down of Beaver Creek Resort Area) if you don't want to drive to the ski area (and pay the $30/day of peaking there) you can take the free ride in the bus, in front of the hotel main entrance. But honestly I can not imagine waiting there with the skies and equipment and the kids during a freezing winter morning...but we did and it was crowded but OK.
The amenities of the hotel were good (outdoor and indoor hot tub, gym, steam room, sauna @7th floor) very clean, the stuff was helpful and responsive. The only downside for us was the space of the room. We thought that having one bedroom and a sofa should be comfortable enough for the four of us (2adults, 2 young kids) but it wasn't . The small room had not a kitchenette or so...only a microwave/conv oven (not to helpful if you want to cook your own meal) but the BBQ out in the balcony did some of the job (and my husband...yeah!)
I would return, and enjoy anyway!

Thank you for your review of our property and staying at the Sheraton Mountain Vista. We are delighted to hear that you thoroughly enjoyed our onsite amenities and also experienced what the beautiful Vail Valley has to offer. By your description of the room it sounds like you stayed in a Deluxe Villa, which is the smaller villa that we have available. My recommendation for future visits would be our Premium Villa. This Villa is 170 sq. ft. bigger, it has a king size bed in the bedroom with a queen sofa bed in the living room, and a full kitchen. It also has a grill on the balcony. Thank you again for choosing our resort for your vacation and hope to welcome you in any future visits to the Vail Valley

I am Spg Platinum spending over 60-90 nights in hotels a year.
We just finished a ten night stay here.
Some of the pluses of this property include very nice rooms, game room 8th floor,
two large jacuzzis roof top (one indoor and a few feet away another one outside).
Great little steam room and also a nice gym.
One problem is they close at 10pm at night.
Should be open till at least 11pm.
This hotel has excellent staff in all departments.
My only complaint is the distance from the slopes! Makes it hard for skiing especially if you have little kids!
Shuttle rather crowded on the way up anytime of day and extremely crowded going back down at the end of a ski day!!!
This shuttle service is horrible!
I've skied at 50-60 different resorts across North and south america and can't remember such a poorly run shuttle service!
Didn't run on time one day.
Switching sides of the road for pick up was also rather confusing.
A couple days there were three green buses taking people back to parking lots vs one for Avon hotel guests being returned down to Avon.
So in the time to have the Avon bus arrive three green buses would have come and gone.
Disgusting!
Waited 50-60 min two of the four ski days skied in Beaver Creek.
Bus was cram packed with skiers!
People don't expect to be shoulder to shoulder on these buses after a long day of skiing! Standing!
After our first few days my wife and I started to just take our car and go elsewhere to ski like Vail and Copper! Just about the same amount of time from our hotel door to lift.
This is a huge factor when considering where to stay! I've stayed at the Weston and they have a gondola right at the front door!
With small kids the Weston is a better pick if you don't mind spending more than the Sheraton.
I still would stay at the Sheraton with older kids that can carry their own ski equip!
Don't get me wrong the ten days were excellent at the Sharaton! No complaints about the hotel!
Their gm should bring the shuttle service issues to the mountain management.
I heard a few people say similar things on a couple of the days.
Who needs to calculate an hour to an hour and a half coming and going for skiing each way for transportation.
For example Whistler resort in Canada seems to have many shuttles running especially during the start of the day and the end.
Whistler had one of the best shuttle services I've ever seen!
Overall the Sheraton is excellent value and quality with the the only drawback being ski slope access.

Thank you for being a loyal member of SPG and choosing the Sheraton Mountain Vista for your family vacation. As you mentioned our onsite amenities like our game room, 3 hot tubs, sauna and steam rooms, enhance our guests experience at our resort. We are 2.5 miles away from Beaver Creek and unfortunately like most hotels in Avon, we do not have guest transportation, we rely on the public transportation to accomodate our guests to and from the slopes. I do apologize that the shuttle service was not very helpful and it turned out to be an inconvenience for you. The lack of shuttle service is inexcusable and this information will be brought up to the proper town personnel in order to enhance the service to our guests for next season. Once again we thank you for choosing the Sheraton Mountain Vista for your visit to the beautiful Vail Valley and expect to welcome you back on future visits

1400 square feet of "cabin style" luxury. It needs a restaurant and shuttle service to the ski gondola, but other than that this is a perfect spot. We shared our two bedroom two bath villa with another couple and had a marvelous time. Recently upgraded, the units are in perfect shape. The staff is helpful and attentive. We look forward to next year's ski trip and stay.

Room Tip: Get mountain side for better views. The higher up the better.

We are owners through Starwood and were very excited to get this property for a week during Spring Break. Unfortunately the location was so inconvenient and you have to drive everywhere. There are little dining options that are walking distance and you are really at the mercy of the shuttle bus schedules. The Westin has a gondola right outside the property that you can hop on and be in the village in minutes. The service at the hotel is mediocre. We had left messages for the concierge and were told we would be called back by the front desk and never heard. The rooms are much smaller than other Starwood properties and the amenities at the hotel are slim. The Market is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays so plan accordingly. The swimming pool is located in a parking lot. It was the kids you would see at a Motel. If you could stay at the Westin I would. We wouldn't come back to this property. We would def. try to stay at the Westin.

Room Tip: Ask to stay on the 7th floor so you are near the fitness center with the hot tubs and steam room.

This hotel is a great facility. However we had a horrible experience. We inadvertently left our laptop at the front desk while we were checking in. One hour an a half later we realized about this unfortunate event and went down to the front desk to look for the item. The same person that checked us in, named Jessica, told us that nothing was left behind and that . Next day, while we were asking other staffed member and told us that they her taking some items in the back office, she changed her version and said that she took what it was a gray folder, description that matched the gray sleeve protection cover of our laptop. She said that put the item in the back office but it disappeared from there after giving excuses that the item could be in the safe or in one of the managers office. We reported the incident to the police and management. After management reviewed the security tape of the camera pointing at the front desk, they confirmed our version as they saw the staff member named Jessica taking our laptop from the front desk. The tape also showed how 30 minutes later we showed up at the front desk. In those 30 mins, the front desk staff had forgotten that she had placed in the back office our laptop. When she was questioned by management, she could not precisely located the location where she placed the item in the back office. We filed the report with the police and as of today we have not received news. When we left, the staff member still was working at the Sheraton.
