This place is OK. For the price I am satisfied and would conceivably come back if the price was right. But I am a little surprised at how uniformly good the reviews are. Beaver Creek Lodge has a lot of little shortcomings that result in minor inconveniences. It's irritating because most of them are due to stupid decisions about the design and furniture choices. The place looks OK, but functionality is lacking. I'm listing negative things because I think the the positives are covered in other reviews.
1. The kitchenette is quite small - really more of a wet bar. Half of what appear to be lower cabinets are not - they are false fronts that look like drawers, but they don't open.
2. The kitchenette sink is very, very small. So small that a dinner plate won't fit flat in it. There is no dishrack.
3. The door on the minifridge swings the wrong way so that you kind of have to reach around the door to get at things. It's easy to spill.
4. The one table for eating only has two chairs
5. Because of the design of the table, the chairs don't fit underneath it when they are not in use, reducing the already limited available space.
6. There are only 2 (TWO!) drawers for storage in the entire king suite (OK, four if you count the drawer for utensils and the tiny desk drawer completely stuffed with hotel info). No nightstand drawers, no drawers in the bathroom. Just two drawers. This is ridiculously inadequate. There are two closets, so that helps somewhat. There is only one hook.
7. The extra comforter for the pull-out bed has no cover. It looked clean, but that's still little gross.
8. They give you dental rinse, body wash, two kinds of bar soap, lotion, and a shower cap, but no conditioner. Just shampoo that supposedly is also a conditioner. In this climate you need real conditioner. So that was annoying. I could have done without the three kinds of soap and the dental rinse.
9. There is an extra sink in the bedroom. This is actually a positive, but the space and money could have been put to better use. Anyone who spends so much time getting made-up that they need their own sink and vanity is going to need more than two drawers for sure.
10. The gym has two long racks of free weights but only enough room for two people to use them at a time. There are no 2.5 pound increments and only one set of 5, 10, 15, and 20 pound weights. So basically only one female can use the free weights at a time. But there are some very heavy weights that would probably not be safe to use in so small a space.
11. The gym bathroom has only one shower per gender. So if someone slow is ahead of you, you are SOL. Yes, you can go to your room, but it's still a stupid allocation of space.
12. There is a sauna AND a steam room. Like the extra sink in the rooms, this would be a positive if the space wasn't so desperately needed for other functions.
13. We had two meals - a room service dinner and breakfast in the restaurant. Both awful. The Kobe beef meatloaf was way too peppery and doused in Worcestershire sauce (why not on the side?). I love spicy food, but this was just weird. At breakfast I ordered the waffle with berries, after confirming that the berries were stawberries. My waffle came with one strawberry on top. That's skimpy for $12. We did, however, each get our own portion of butter that must have totalled half a pound. The service was really, really bad too. Nice people, just completely untrained. They actually asked if everything was OK and i just said "yes." I know it's lame to do that and then badmouth them, but the meals were so far from OK that i didn't know where to start and I felt bad for them for being so incompetant.
Again, I've focused on the negatives because I feel the info was lacking (especially about the lack of storage) in other reviews. It was mentioned that the living area portions of the suites front an interior atrium (there are no window to the outdoors). There are blinds, but a determined pervert could peak in. I didn't really care, but privacy and noise are potential problems. So be forewarned if you are someone who frequently feels vulnerable.
Also, despite the separate bedroom the king suite do not really have enough space for more than two people. And many people might not want their young children sleeping in a room that is so exposed to strangers.
Overall everyone who worked there was really nice and eager to please. The valet was lightening fast every time. The front desk people were very friendly. The restaurant/room service people were nice too and clearly trying, but they have no idea what they are doing. No idea.
