We stayed at one of the vacation homes which are separate from the main property and cabins. We made our reservation very close to the time of our arrival. The managers usually require prepayment by check or money order by mail prior to arrival, but they recognized that there was not enough time for this. They were very nice in suggesting that we could prepay with our credit card instead which we did. Upon our arrival we easily took care of the rest of the payment the same way. The managers were very nice and gave us all of the information we needed and there was no ambiguity about the rules. They then had us follow them down the road by car to the place where we would be staying, which was several miles away. They did not require us to come all the way back to the office for check out which was nice.
The vacation home was very nice, with views of Vallecito Lake from almost every window. It is located about 50 - 100 yards up a steep hill from the lake edge. The main Bear Paw Lodge property is not on the lake. The cabin home is fully furnished with plenty of bed linens, towels, dishes, pots and pans. The inside ceilings and walls are all paneled with beautiful glossy finished pine. We had plenty of privacy and quiet here, with a little road noise occasionally when the windows were open, but not bad at all. There is a small stream nearby that we could hear trickling. The person who owns the home lives upstairs and rents out the two lower levels where we stayed. There are rentals at the nearby marina which is easy walking distance away. If you're looking for a place to stay that's quiet in a somewhat remote area away from the crowds, this is it. We really enjoyed our stay here!
