This was my family's first trip to Elk Point Lodge, but it won't be our last. You can't help but feel any stress you have slough off as you pull into the area. My wife, our young son, and I stayed in cabin 4--it has an amazing view of the lake and a great deck with room to enjoy your surroundings. Although other cabins were a stone's throw away, the pines and terrain created a sense of privacy. The wildlife is varied and beautiful, the room amenities are sufficient (extras are available if requested), and JR, Lark, and the staff are as great as you could hope for. They are what really put Elk Point over the top. They are accommodating without being intrusive, and they truly make you feel welcome. We spent our 4+ days horseback riding (breakfast is delicious, by the way!), walking down by the water line, hiking, taking advantage of the spa, and visiting nearby areas like Durango and Silverton. There is more to do than that, so if you enjoy getting out on the lake or seeing other nearby sites you can easily do any of these as day trips. There are several other lodges around Lake Vallecito, but I can't imagine a better spot than Elk Point. Once you meet JR, Lark, and the staff you'll know you've picked the right place.
