“Standard Best Western room, bargain for Aspen region”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

Night clerk polite, staff responded well to battery low beeping from my fire detector. Property is tucked behind other businesses, weakly signed, and hard to find on a dark rainy night. Riverside Grill is right there for easy dining, but walk a block and look for the Two Rivers Cafe and Bar if you have the energy.
My rate of $109.00 plus tax was a bargain for the area, especially since I was stuck overnight from a cancelled flight and didn't want to pay a resort level rate.

I booked lodging at the Aspenalt Lodge through hotels.com. Hotels.com said there are no charges. Aspenalt had a 48 hour cancellation policy. I cancelled several days prior to the 48 hours. I was charged an inter-net booking fee. I called the hotel and told it was an inter-net booking fee. I emailed hotels.com and was told it was a hotel issue. Neither would take responsibility. Bottom line: Don't book at Aspenalt if you might have to cancell, unless you want to pay the inter-net booking fee. Don't use hotels.com as prices are just as good elsewhere and I have never had to pay an internet booking fee when cancelling reservations booked through other booking sites. Frequent Traveler GS

When you get a business rate, plan to deal with your room no matter the condition! When we used the toilet, water would leak on our feet. When explaining this to the night staff she simply said the owners are at a dinner party, can it wait until the morning, well to be nice and accomidating we said ok. (We were NEVER offered another room) So talking to the owners the next morning, she said, you already got a business discount, these things happen! GROSS! We never even received an apology! I will never stay there again, there are nicer hotels in Snowmass for cheaper prices.
If you stay there just plan on dealing with your room no matter the condition!
Also the breakfast was NOT very good either

Room Tip: Make sure you check your room before

The Aspenalt Lodge is a great choice if you want to be near Aspen without paying Aspen prices. Aspen itself is a 20 minute drive down the highway, as is Glenwood Springs. The key to the Aspenalt Lodge is getting a room next to and facing the river. These rooms give you a great view of the running river (just steps outside your room door). The rooms are very clean, large , and seem to have been redone recently. While you don't have a/c, you do have a ceiling fan, and can open the windows (which lets in the cool evening mountain air and allows you to be lulled to sleep by the sounds of the river). Even with a room on the 1st floor we were not afraid to leave the window open at night. The other buildings of the hotel don't seem to have the same atmosphere as the river side rooms. The town itself is small, easily walkable and features great food (the Two Rivers Restaurant for breakfast is awesome!). If you are into biking, try the Basalt Bike and Ski shop ( you can walk there from the lodge) and go out onto the Rio Grande Trail. It's not difficult riding (especially heading downhill towards Glenwood) and adds to the fun of being in the mountains. The staff in the main office of Aspenalt were very friendly, efficient, and made us feel very welcome. This place (and this town) are a hidden gem!

As a graduation gift to two grandchildren, we toured part of Colorado. We did not make reservations in the Aspen area as we thought there would be lots of rooms available. However, they were having the annual food and wine festival and there were no relatively inexpensive rooms available. So I checked on TripAdvisor for the closest alternative. The reviews of this hotel in a town 18 miles from Aspen were good, so I booked two rooms on the river. What a delightful surprise. The rooms have been updated but still are not top-of-the-line. However, the back rooms are right next to a mountain river and the sounds of the rushing water are worth the small extra fee for river-view rooms. A family was playing soccor on the small lawn between the river and motel. The laughter of the small boys added to the enjoyment. There is an excellent restaurant next door, as well as other good restaurants within walking distance. Pros: comfortable beds and good linens; river, largish rooms, walking distance to everything in small town. Cons: parking lot in front (but a grocery store is across the lot which makes it convenient to buy fresh fruit, etc.), sparse continental breakfast and small room in which to eat it.

Room Tip: Pay the little extra for a room facing the river. Well worth it.

Very comfortable motel right on the Frying Pan river. Very close to everything in town, friendly service, and clean. Continental breakfest only nothing to fancy, coffee, juice and cereal. We felt this was the best motel in Basalt.

Room Tip: Ask for the river front

This is NOT a 5 star hotel but in Basalt you wouldn't WANT one. The location of this small motel is right along the Frying Pan river and, when it's running, there's a lovely sound from the river. It's lovely to sit and watch it flow by, as well. While nothing fancy, the rooms are large with microwave, fridge and flat screen TV. There's even a small sitting area. They serve a continental breakfast but we went across the street for breakfast instead. There are several very nice restaurants within walking distance (everything in Basalt is in walking distance) and you are only a few miles from Aspen, Snowmass, Carbondale and Glenwood Springs. It's a one-street town but, if you're fishing or hiking, it's a nice place

Room Tip: DEFINITELY get a room facing the river. Otherwise you are facing parking lots
