“Beware Where You Step!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

It's a pretty location but too much bird poop. It's hard to walk because of it.

“Great hiking”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2012

Lots of trails to hike on, and a cool "ghost town" to explore. Lots of old mining equipment to examine. They've recently redone the playground and bathrooms to make it a much cleaner park. Good blackberries in August and September too.

“A delightful city park”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2011

Greenhorn Park is located on Greehorn Road, to the west of downtown Yreka. It's built around a reservoir with lots of open space and is a lovely place to spend several hours or even a full day.

You can fish from the reservoir or take a boat out onto the water. There are lots of walking footpaths and some easy hiking trails that wind around the surrounding low hills. There is a soccer field, a playground, picnic areas and restrooms.

The most interesting part of the park to us was the "ghost town" on one side. We crossed the little stream from the upper parking area and came to a display of old gold mining and logging machinery. Everything is "touchable" and it's nicely set up to give you the idea of what the various machinery was used for.

As we walked slightly downhill, we saw several old wooden buildings that are set up as a tiny old town. There is a blacksmith's shop and a couple of stores. Unfortunately, there are no informational signs so we could not tell if these buildings are in their original location or had been moved there from somewhere else.

The park was named for a Englishman whom the local miners made fun of, assuming he didn't have any mining skills. He disappeared up the valley where the park is now located and returned months later with sacks of gold nuggets ... or so the story goes!

Greenhorn Park is a great place to relax and spend some time enjoying the pleasant surroundings.
