Since The French Laundry is out of my price range and we still wanted to enjoyed a Thomas Keller dining experience we made reservations for Bouchon. They were certainly fussy about making sure we would be there, pity they don't spend time on other aspects of the restaurant as well.
We were two couples dining. Things started well, first course, French onion soup, radishes, Salmon Tartar, oysters. Our friend had 2 bad oysters. Unacceptable. Did our waitress inquire as to how things were? She did not. The busboy was informed and he alerted the manager, who apologized. Then dinner, trout, chicken, and 2 orders of flat iron steak. A bit heavy handed on the salt, but one of the steaks was extremely tough. The waitress then suggested it was because of how rare it was ordered. What? Must be the customer's fault? Really? The manager then returned to explain and said about 30% of this cut is tough. You know it and serve it anyway? At these prices? All was smoothed out and a new steak appeared. After we had finished our entrees, the waitress appeared with 6 new oysters for our friend. AFTER the meal?
Decided to cut our losses and not bother with dessert. Will say we were impressed with the manager, but someone needs to pay more attention here. A shame.
