“Great Location, Smelled of Smoke”

Oleander House and Garden

Overall our stay at the Oleander house was great. The house did have a strong smell of smoke from either the owners or previous guests. Omitting this smell would have made the stay more pleasent. Breakfast was always presented in a lovely manner. However, over the 3 days we stayed it was very similar each day; fruit, an egg casserole/quiche, and a dessert. It would have been nice to see more variety and other items for those that aren't fans of casseroles/quiches. French Toast that is advertised on their website would have been wonderful.

The house has a lovely "lounge" room where you can meet up with other guests or people you are traveling with to catch-up. This room also included a fridge that was stocked with water and soda. This was very nice. However, it would have been nice to have the opportunity for Hot Tea/Cocoa in the evenings as well.

The hot tub was wonderful and the view of the stars was great. Overall I would stay here again if needed. The location is great and puts you in a good spot to head out to wineries early in the morning.

We thank our guests for alerting us to the issue of smoke in our facility. We have now identified the source of that issue and eliminated it. We have taken steps to clean all carpets, soft seating and upholstery items throughout the house. We apologize to to the guests visits that were effected by this issue. We can now assure all future guests that a smell of smoke will not be a problem they will encounter here at the Oleander House.

Not sure if it was Kathleen or her husband, but someone was a chain smoker and it made the entire house smell like an ashtray. We know it wasn't another guest as we were the only ones staying there for one of the nights.

The setting of Oleander was fine - the rooms were pretty comfortable, although a little over-the-top in terms of decor. The location isn't bad, although it's good to know that it's not right IN Yountville, but rather a couple miles north of town. So, if you're hoping to walk to and from dinner at French Laundry, Redd or Napa Grille, this isn't the place to stay.

We've stayed at other places in Yountville and our opinion is that for the money you can find much better.

The wife and I just got back from wine country and we had a great time; its hard not to when you love wine.

We stayed at the Oleander House for 4 days and 3 nights. Kathleen is great. She makes wonderful breakfast, fresh fruit, pastries, quiches and more.... it was a great way to start a day before drinking wine all day.

As mentioned in previous reviews, this place is right on a Highway 29, St Helena Hwy. Its a couple doors down from Mustards Grill and Brix Restaurant. Traffic on 29 moves fast, and it's sometimes difficult to turn left out of the lot (depending on traffic). If you are a light sleeper, try to get a room not facing the road.

We stayed in the Garden Room, which was located on the ground floor and faced the road. It was a little bit noisy in the morning and at night with cars & trucks driving by @ 50 MPH, but it didn't bother us much.

Oleander also had a nice little fenced in patio in the backyard, and hot tub. Although we didn't use due to the weather (rained alot while we were there). Our room had a private patio with a table and chairs to sit and enjoy that new bottle of wine purchased @ tours & tastings earlier in the day. Other rooms had private balconies.

If you are in Napa to see the wineries, this location is great. It's right down the street from Yountville, where there are many restaurants and a few shops. It's also easy access to both Highway 29 and Silverado Trail, the two main arteries for all of Napa. I definitely would stay there again.

Oleander House was very cozy and quaint. We went up for a quick getaway. the room was very nice and spacious and the jacuzzi tub was very nice. the bed was a little soft and very noisy and the room did face hwy 29. it was louder than i would have liked but it did not keep us up. the fire place was perfect.

the breakfast was great and kathleen was very charming. well done.

I took my boyfriend up to Napa for his birthday, and we stayed at the Oleander House. This was my first time staying at a B&B and I absolutely loved it. The breakfast was great and Kathleen was a wonderful host. She made us feel very welcomed in her house and even made my boyfriend a special brakfast one morning because he does not like cheese. Our room was very spacious and cozy at the same time. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a romantic getaway becasue the fireplace and the jacuzzi tub in the room really set the mood.
