“Bucket list dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

We were pleased to be able to go after someone else cancelled a reservation even after being on the waiting list for over a month! The food was amazing, especially the yellowtail tuna. The restaurant is a little tight on space so you feel like there are so many servers that the pace is a little frenetic.. Especially if they bump your chair. We might have liked a shorter dinner since we were there 3 hours. By the last amazing servings of desert we were fidgeting from sitting so long. So if you can handle the heart attack of a bill and a 3 hour bill you should definitely go eat some of the best food ever.

“Mother-Daughter trip to Napa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

We were a two mother-two daugher traveling group and had a great, once in a lifetime experience at the French Laundry.
We enjoyed everything about the dinner, and every person who helped us with or served us our meal. As exquisite as the servings were, the atmosphere was relaxed and congenial.
This was a special occasion for us and I would highly recommend it.

“A painful dinning experience.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

After flying from Bangkok to SFO and then to Napa Valley, we were looking forward to our 9:15pm booking at The French Laundry. On arrival, we were kept waiting for 15 minutes, but no bother as were we looking forward to the meal.
The restaurant has a cosy atmosphere, close seating but comfortable. The menus were presented, water was poured and wine was served. So far, so good.
The meal was a 9 course chef's menu and the 1st course was excellent, Oyster and Pearls, Sabayon of pearl Tapioca with Island Creek Oysters and White Sturgeon Caviar. The Tapioca Pearls were surprisingly fine and gave a nice crunch, the Oysters perfectly balanced in flavor with caviar.
Salad of Hawaiian Hearts of Peach Palm, a superbly decorated plate. However, totally bland.
Sauteed Fillet of Atlantic Halibut, superbly decorated plate. The Halibut was slightly over cooked which put the whole dish off. The Forked Crush New Crop Potato was crisp but too salty. This plate was unbalanced.
Sweet Butter-Paoched Maine Lobster, the lobster was beautifully cooked. Ruby Beet Puree and Aged Balsamic Vinegar, was too sweet and killed the lobster.
Liberty Farm Pekin Duck "Rillette" was dead. I believe the chef's hand slipped when he seasoned this dish, way too salty. None of my dinning companions could take more than 1 mouthful.
To be fair, the maitre'd offered to fix it with another dish. He served a gnocchi with truffle sauce. The gnocchi was excellent fine texture but again too salty.
After that, the food just continued to taste salty and we just gave up.
The meal was not balanced, the flavors were confusing, apart from the heavy hand on the salt.
Definitely, not worth paying for. Pity!

“A meal we will never forget”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2013

This was the culinary experience of a lifetime. We were treated like royalty from beginning to end, the staff was wonderful, a smile at every turn, very informative and so helpful in helping us choose the right wine for each course. The famous "oysters and pearls" was delicious, as was sautéed Hamachi, rabbit sirloin, and white sturgeon. Our captain, I believe his name is Kevin, could not have been more accommodating. We had mentioned to him that we were going to bike around various wineries the following day, and he brought us a bag full of French Laundry goodies - cookies, truffles and other lovely snacks to take with us on our ride. After dinner, I had asked if it was possible to get a menu autographed by Tom Keller and to visit the kitchen. Kevin came through with flying colors - delivering us the autographed menu and then taking us into the kitchen, where we observed Tim Hollingsworth and crew preparing the various dishes. Note: the kitchen has a video monitor with a live view of the kitchen at Per Se here in NYC. Very interesting. BTW, while not a highlight, it was fun to see Emily Stone and Andrew

“Unique, delicious, and long”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2013

The food is just amazing, the wine list is never ending, and it an experience to have, once. Although we loved the experience, after 3 1/2 hours of dinner, we were ready to for the end. This is a place for serious foodies, lovely cavier dishes, interesting lamb preparations, fabulous pea soup.
