Have eaten hear many times over the years and the food is consistently good, savory, and tasty. The atmosphere is bustling, noisy, and cramped. I find it best on a cold winter evening with a bottle or two of wine, then the atmosphere seems right.

We ate at Bistro Jeanty in June 2009 during our trip to Napa Valley. We had reservations and were seated promptly; the service was efficient. The food was excellent; my husband and I each ate the escargot appetizer (the largest escargot I have ever seen), entrees, and dessert (my husband raved about his chocolate creme brulee. The restaurant was loud inside and seemed to have many family groups and work colleagues dining there on the night we were there (there weren't many other couples). We would return if we ever get to take another trip to Napa Valley.

Anticpated a great experience from prior reviews. Service was polite by but inattentive and terse. Food was solidly good but uniformly over-salted and unreasonably priced. Atmosphere is terrific from a casual elegance decor standpoint, but very loud in the indoor seating area. If you go, hope your exeprience was better than ours.

Interesting menu with the usual innovation typical of the Wine Country. Examples: Tomato soup with puff pastry; escarole salad with hard boiled egg and bacon. Many choices for a wide variety of eating preferences. All in an inviting setting.

The service though was apparently based on "anyone serve." One took an order, one served water, one served bread, one brought a knife, one brought the entree, etc. It took over six minutes for my soup to be removed, even though people kept looking the table and ignored it. The salad was not prepared until my partner's entree had been delivered, which meant he had to watch me eat the soup, I watched him eat his lunch, and he watched me eat my salad. For a place in a great foodie location, it is also unseemly for the invasive "Is everything okay?" question offered when the mouth is full. (When will this ridiculous practice end. A good server watches and makes eye contact and does not interrupt mid-chewing.)
