The food at this restaurant is good. We enjoyed our entrees and wine
and had a pleasant dining experience, but toward the end, the experience went south.
When the waiter cleared our plates, we requested the dessert menu. It took him 20 minutes to bring it to us. At 2pm on a Monday afternoon, we do not expect service to be this slow. The restaurant was not that crowded. After he dropped off the dessert menu, it took him another 15 minutes to come back to us to see if we wanted to order. By that time, we had decided that paying $12 for each dessert wasn't warranted and that we could do much better at Dean and Deluca.
It took another 10 minutes for the waiter to bring our bill, and another 10 minutes for him to collect the bill with our credit card.
When he finally came back with our completed bill, he walked past us to serve wine to guests sitting behind us, then stopped off at a table where two young blones were dining to chat with them (he offered them the use of his discount at tasting rooms in the Valley) and THEN stopped by our table to drop off the check for us to sign.
Things got worse when my wife got stung by a bee (we were sitting on the back patio). After she got stung, she went in to find someone to help her. When the manager saw her, he motioned to her with his finger to come over to where he was standing. She felt like she was being treated like a child. When she gave him a look of disbelief, he
finally decided to walk over to her. He pulled a cooling cream from the first aid kit to give to her and said "do you want a band-aid?".
There was no display of emotion or any concern for my wife's well being. The manager did not bother to ask her if she was allergic to bees or even ask if she was OK. He did not apologize (i.e. say that he was sorry it happened) or even sound like he cared. He didn't so much as offfer her a seat, a glass of water, or even a tissue (she was in tears from the pain by this point). To top it all off, he walked away WITHOUT getting my wife a band-aid. She was left standing
there by herself, tears in her eyes, with the throbbing pain of a bee
sting.
Needless to say, we found this treatment insulting. This is not the type of service or display of hospitality we expect from any service establishment, let alone one that supposedly prides itself on service
and high cuisine. There is no shortage of restaurants in the Napa Valley and we will be sure to visit all of them many times over before returning to Brix.
