I stayed at The Vintage Inn so I felt compelled to try Chef Michael Chiarello's Bottega Ristorante. The only table we could get for a Saturday night was at 9:00pm (booked a week in advance) but it turned out to be perfect because of a huge lunch and afternoon nibbles. It was VERY busy when we arrived, only to be expected on a Saturday in the middle of summer, and it took about 10 minutes before we were seated. We sat inside down the back towards the private room. Service was excellent, I appreciated the waiter's honesty, he actually told me there was a dish he didn't care for when I asked what he recommended! (Is that even allowed?). Anyway, the food came out promptly and was completely delicious. My partner and I shared appetizers and entrees and there wasn't one dish that was at all mediocre, everything was ordered was worth savoring. Please note that we're both big 'foodies' and dine out a lot!
We were both way too full to order desert (that's what you get for nibbling too much of the bread) so I can't comment on that.
The wine selection was very comprehensive, as you would expect in Yountville, and again our waiter helped us out.
Atmosphere was great. The glass walls of the private room meant that we could see in, and there was a party in full swing that seemed to have every who was looking in smiling, and commenting on the event.
By the time we were done there were only a few tables left, the place really cleared out all at once, so if you like that sort of winding down atmosphere, a 9:00pm reservation is a good thing.
I would recommend this restaurant for a fancy date or romantic evening of any type.
