We stayed three nights at the Napa Valley Lodge last week and absolutely loved it. The location is terrific right next to the main highway through all of the little towns associated with Napa Valley. Several wineries, restaurants, shops, and gas stations are located on the main road so there is easy access to everything.
We stayed in a large deluxe room with a king bed, fireplace and balcony overlooking the vineyard in which the lodge sits. The decor is beautiful in warm tones and tasteful bedding and accessories. The bathroom is a good size and appointed in granite and tile. They also supply you with above-average toiletries and extras like a big cosmetic mirror, q-tips and cotton balls.
There is a complimentary champagne breakfast that is very good with plenty of breads, juices, fresh fruit, cheeses, pastries, and puddings. You can eat indoors or poolside. The pool and heated jacuzzi are beautiful and private in a courtyard area. This is also where the firepit is located for those chilly California evenings.
The staff is extremely friendly and willing to lend suggestions. We wanted to experience Napa from the past rather than going to the larger wineries. They suggested a semi-private tour called "Platypus Tours." You are taken with up to six or eight people on a limo bus to some small out-of-the-way wineries, some by appointment only. The service is very personalized and the wine at every winery was excellent. You're also provided a nice, healthy lunch, which we ate in a picnic area at one of the wineries. We were even given a barrel tasting at our favorite winery Casa Neustra. For $85 per person, it is well worth it and loads of fun.
Overall, a wonderful trip, great weather, nice people and delicious wine!
