“Quintessential Napa Valley at a Reasonable Price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2011

Yountville is the quintessential Napa Valley, complete with a romantic-level of quaint, Michelen-rated dining experiences, and countless wineries that produce some of the world's best wines. The Napa Valley Lodge is the perfect place to call "home base" in the middle of it all.

The rooms are comfortably appointed, though I found the mattress a bit soft for my weary back, and well-stocked with mini-bar snacks and a complimentary bottle of wine (ours was a bottle of Domaine Chandon champagne, whose namesake winery is just up the road a mile or so). The grounds are well-kept and though the hotel is located on the corner of the highway that runs through the Valley, the walls surrounding the property are high enough to block out the highway view, leaving us with a splendid view of the surrounding mountains. In addition, strategically-placed fountains around the perimeter of the property mask any residual traffic noise.

On our short, three-night trip, we visited 5 wineries and tasting rooms around Napa and Sonoma, took in the sights around downtown Yountville (including waiting at Bouchon Bakery for savory monkey bread), lunched at the French Laundry (only two blocks from the Napa Valley Lodge), and dined at Etoile at Domaine Chandon. It was the perfect location at an incredibly reasonable price, particularly compared to other hotel properties in the area.

“No Complaints”

We stayed at NPL for 2 nights in early August and were quite happy with our stay. The rooms are spacious and well maintained. The pool area is modern and very nice. Breakfast was excellent. It is well located, within short walking distance to several of the most popular fancy restaurants in Yountville.

The only downside to NPL is cost. If this hotel were located almost anywhere else, its prices would be closer to $200 rather than $300. You pay a lot for what you get, but that's par for the course in Napa Valley.

With that in mind, I would definitely return.

“Glad we chose this hotel!”

Thanks to tripadvisor.com we ended up changing our reservation at another hotel to stay at the Napa Valley Lodge. Yes, Napa is an expensive place to visit but we felt that this hotel gave us the feeling of luxury at an affordable price. Napa was one of our last stops on our California road trip and when we walked in to our room, it was the feeling of "Ahhh" ... clean, spacious and a view of the pool, courtyard and vineyard (and yes, the road, but it was still lovely). The pool and rooms were as nice as they looked on the NVL website (which is not always the case, as we discovered at other hotels). The beds were very comfortable, the bathroom well laid out and the service was great. If you're heading to Napa and you love great food and wine, Yountville is the place to stay as the choice of many top restaurants are within walking distance of the hotel. We ate at Ad Hoc and Bottega and both were fabulous meals. All in all, an excellent choice and we appreciate all the reviews that helped us pick it.

“Beautiful Hotel”

We wound up staying at the NVL pretty much because it was the only decent hotel in the Yountville area that wasn't already book, and we were so happy we lucked into this. The hotel had huge rooms and showers, a huge pool with plenty of places to lay out (including beds) next to it. Nice bubbly hot tub, fire pit, and bocce ball (which we didn't get around to playing). Staff was extremely friendly, courteous, and helpful. When we decided at the last minute to do car service for the day for winery tours they had it arranged in no time. Next time I'll be looking for them first instead of by luck!

“Beautiful room, a bit pricey”

Beautiful room and hotel grounds, including great pool, hot tub and bocce ball court. It was a bit pricey but seems like that is just how it goes in the Napa Valley. Champagne breakfast was great. We only stayed for a night but had a very pleasant stay in very comfortable beds. For the price I expected better towels (they were rough) and thought the hotel would be more on a vineyard ... it really was surrounded by streets on 3 of the 4 sides, and a vineyard only on one side. Overall would recommend. Plus there was a great place to rent bikes across the street and some nice restaurants within walking distance.
