My husband & I just returned from the most amazing anniversary trip to the Napa Valley.
While researching fun outdoor activities in the Napa Valley, we stumbled across Napa Valley Bike Tours website and discovered that they offer full-blown vacation packages that include your hotel, daily bike tours and a good portion of your dinners ($40 per person each night when we went in April 2008).
They took care of all of the details from booking our hotel and dinner reservations to really listening to the type of cycling we wanted to do on this vacation. Our hotel (the Yountville Inn) was fantastic - excellent service and a small boutique feel, with tasty breakfast offerings from Bouchon Bakery down the street.
Our daily biking tours were wonderful! We were a bit nervous, having never done a cycling vacation before, but they had plenty of riding options to cater to the different needs of the group. My husband & I stuck with the casual Ride, Wine & Dine Tours. We visited 3-4 wineries each day and a gourmet picnic lunch was waiting for us at the second or third winery stop along the way.
The bike guides are local, knowledgeable and fun. In fact, we exchanged emails with a couple of the guides and plan to keep in touch!
Unlike other biking vacations we were researching, our dinners each night were private (not with a group of cyclists). This was a huge advantage to us, especially on our anniversary trip - we liked biking and meeting other people during the day and then having our own private time at night... And the restaurants were incredible! All of them were a short walk from our hotel.
I would highly recommend Napa Valley Bike Tours to anyone who wants to strike a balance of visiting great boutique wineries and enjoying a little outdoor activity on their Napa Valley vacation.
They are experienced, professional, genuinely friendly and they were able to customize the trip according to our needs.
And if you're not looking for the full-blown cycling vacation, they do offer One-Day Tours, too. I would highly recommend the experience!
