“A bit more expensive, but still excellent value ”

My wife and I are budget travellers and opted for Xalli because other places we tried to reserve were either full or didn't respond to our enquiries. Are we glad we did! We were in the junior delux room, which was impeccably clean, beautifully furnished, and very peaceful.
The owners were wonderful. Full of good advice, helpful and patient.
The restaurant menu was well varied, work several vegetarian options. We stayed for three days so had time to sample lots of the menu.
The grounds are lovely, elevated from the beach by about 10 big steps. The steady onshore breeze (wind) was welcome, keeping the heat and the bugs at bay.
We would definitely stay there again if we ever return to Ometepe.

Lovely hotel on a beautiful island. Recommended

Pros: great food, superb friendly hosts who were happy to arrange all sorts of trips for you band have a chat, well apointed bug free room (hard in such a buggy location), competitivley priced suiting those who want a bit of extra comfort but don't want The Ritz

Cons (and i'm being picky here): Wifi only available in communal area, beach is not the most exciting (do not expect white sand and azure waters) and hotel not really walking distance (pitch black at night) from main Santo Domingo community.

These are minor gripes and I would defo go back again.

I suggest people are quick to visit Ometepe as new international airport about to be built on the island which no doubt will change the tranquil nature of the island in some way.

Room Tip: We had the suite which had a TV in it which can get films via a memory stick. Hotel was just install...

We stayed at Xalli for 3 nights in their 'value' room which was small with shared bathroom but very clean with comfortable bed. The standard of the accommodation is higher than other places we saw on Ometepe and was very affordable too if you get the cheaper rooms.

The property itself is lovely, with hammocks to relax in, access to a small private beach (nicer than some stretches of beach we saw elsewhere on the island), and a great dining area where you can meet other travelers. The food served is in the mid-range for prices but was excellent.

The owners and staff were all very friendly and helpful, and were able to arrange tours for us for a variety of activities.

If all of that isn't enough...there are so many fireflies on the lawn at night, it is magical. Loved our stay and would definitely recommend.

My wife and I visited Xalli on our honeymoon and loved it. We only got to stay for two days, so we didn't get to experience all Ometepe had to offer. But as soon as we arrived, Jonathan and Roslyn (the owners) helped us organize our short time there to be sure we could get the most out of our stay, and helped us book our ferry and all the island transportation (all while we enjoyed our complimentary cocktails). The food was wonderful, and the staff was extremely helpful in accomodating our dietary needs. The rooms were immaculate, great size, and wonderful beds and towels. They also have a great selection of DVDs on USB drives for in-room viewing. We never thought we would want to spend an evening in Nicaragua watching a movie, but after a long day of hiking and kayaking, it was such a welcome, relaxing break!

We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Ometepe!

After a long hot day of traveling and trying to find a place to stay that fit our group we stumbled upon Xalli. It must have been our lucky day bc the place was between reservations and we were able to score a sweet deal for 3 nights. The rooms were heavenly! We had spent most of out trip sleeping in hot, sweaty and rustic places that didn't have a/c or flush toilets, I had the best sleep I had had in weeks. The owners were so generous and nice. The food was great and we were also able to do some laundry. It was nice to be by the water and just lay in the hammocks and read. I would definitely check it out, you won't be disappointed.

It was so good we couldn't leave. This place us run by people who have are travellers themselves and you can feel it. We are backpackers and saw that they have two rooms at a budget option with a shared bathroom with one other room. The rooms are immaculate and cleaned everyday. The restaurant makes incredible food for breakfast lunch and dinner. They give you lunch packs for your hikes if you choose to do them and they help you organise taxis and any transport around the island which is not an easy island to get around without wheels of some sort. The staff there is possible some of the nicest and most helpful staff we've had. They don't speak English but believe me you will be able to communicate with them. They will try their darnedest to make you feel welcome. I wanted to hug all of them when I left. Great place.

Room Tip: If you're on a budget get the economical option and share a bathroom.

We arrived at Xalli with a vaugue plan on how to make the most of our 24 hours on the island. Within the time it took to drink our complimentary drinks, the owner had organised everything even down to booking our ferry back to the mainland. This gave us time to enjoy a few beers on the beach and enjoy the chilled out atmosphere. The rooms are super clean and comfortable and the food was really tasty. Staying at Xalli made our trip to Ometepe awsome.
