“Beautiful Estate”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2014

Great day trip, particularly in May, almost everything was in bloom. The formal gardens are amazing, the house is magnificent, and the staff are eager to tell the history of the estate and the owners. Definitely worth the time to visit

“Filoli is Heaven on Earth”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2014

I had wanted to go to Filoli for about 20 years but something always seemed to get in the way. Finally, I made it there for the first time in 2012 and I now make it a goal to go at least twice a year every year. For me, this place is just heaven as it is so beautiful and relaxing. The house has an old world charm about it and walking through takes you back through time. They just do not make houses like this anymore. My favorite thing about Filoli, however, are the gardens. They are gorgeous and so tranquil. The different flowers, trees and plants are just feast for the eyes and there are benches where one can just sit, relax, and enjoy the beauty and serenity. It is impossible to walk through the gardens and not leave all the stresses and cares of your day to day life behind. I always go with family or friends but I plan to go at least once this year, just by myself with a good book in hand so I can sit in the garden and read until they close.
The docents are all very friendly and love to share their knowledge of the history of Filoli so do not be shy about asking lots of questions because they love answering them. Also, plan to have lunch or a snack in their quaint little café as the food is delicious, reasonably priced, and you can either sit indoors with windows all the way around, or outdoors on the patio--both are great options.
Filoli is a treasure tucked away right off of 280 in Woodside and if you are ever in the area, you owe it to yourself to stop in and take in all that this beautiful and historic place has to offer.

“Beautiful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2014

This was a gorgeous way to spend a beautiful spring day - I took my 2 year old through the self-guided tour of the gardens and mansion; everything was lovely. The pathways are gravel; not good for strollers or wheelchairs, but there are lots of benches throughout the gardens to stop and rest & take in the view.

The cafe had a nice variety of food to choose from, as well as sodas, juices, coffee, tea and bottled water.

“A view of the privileged life!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2014

A mansion and gardens right out of the gilded age! It is Downton Abbey on the Peninsula. The gardens are fantastic and worth a visit throughout the year. There is also a cafe where you can have a bite to eat.

“A national icon.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

Filoli is an extensive country estate in Woodside, CA., now a property of the National Trust for Historic Preservations. Admission charge is minimal, hours are listed on the website and a fine, small café is on-site. The gardens are seemingly endless, and far more awesome than anticipated. Several days are needed to see, and appreciate, everything available, including self-guided, or docent-guided tours of "The House and Garden". A retail gift store and "nursery" are must-see areas. Suggest going Tuesday through Friday, arriving at 10:30 A.M..By 11 A.M., on the Tuesday when we first went, the main parking lot was full Spill-over parking is no problem. No smoking, no packed-in food, and respect for the property are understood rules.
