“This is a great place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

My husband and I stayed in the Garden Cottage the weekend of July 27th & 28th and couldn't have been more pleased with our choice. The property is in a quiet country location, but very close to town. It is beautiful and peaceful, surrounded by a large pasture full of cattle, emus, ducks and geese. The cottage itself was a delight. Very comfortable king size bed, large claw-foot soaking tub, plus large shower, mini-kitchenette (just perfect for our needs) with various continental breakfast items included, fruit and cheese plate on arrival, coffee, juice, milk and fruit.
Our cottage faced the rear of the property and felt very private. It was so quiet at night which made for an excellent nights sleep. The cottage had a lovely front porch with chairs and a table, where we had a dinner picnic and bottle of wine one warm evening. It was so quiet and peaceful and it seemed like there was no one else around. Just lovely. The owners, Byron and Karen are very nice and wonderful hosts. They were helpful but never intrusive. We rarely saw them, but when needed they were right there. They provided great suggestions for dinners and also for a wonderful grocery in nearby Healdsburg. There is also a binder in the room full of things to do in the area which was very useful.
Staying in the cottage felt almost like being in a private house which was just perfect for us. Privacy, comfort and quiet. And the price was actually less than some of the larger chain hotels in town. Just loved it. We have already booked again for next year!

Nice property close to Santa Rosa airport (great air museum) and not to far from Windsor, CA. Your hosts Byron and Karen are two of the nicest people and great hosts. We stayed in the French Cottage-they also have English, Italian and Tankhouse. I wish I owned the cottage and could move it to the coast, nice retirement home. They provide the ingredients for waffles and they were great. We went to Savemart in Healdsburg and picked up some other supplies-bacon, fruit, etc. , a nice little keg of Heineken and it was perfect. Room were just right for two people-they had cable, wi-fi, cd player, dvd player, books, games (Yahtzee!). We had Emu's, Canadian Geese and Big Brahma Bulls next door, they were neat to watch. Bed is queen size but very comfortable. Kitchen had all necessary utensils. They ask that you keep it clean before you leave, which presented no problem. Close to many wineries and attractions. We went to listen to Zydeco music in Healdsburg, Black Rock Casino in Alexander Valley. Heck we even drove to the coast to Jenner where it was nice and cool. Windsor is a quaint little town with a village green and the greatest candy store-Powell's, only place to find peanut butter bars. Things closed early keep that in mind. Toured Korbel California Champagne Cellars which was very nice. The property had nice place to park right in front of our cottage and a great hot tub just like at home. Only complaint was we could not stay longer. Price was very nice compared to hotels in area and ammendities you receive. Regarding the review about no guest visitors, there are always these type of people who are going to complain now matter what-just disregard their opinions and listen to the majority.

Room Tip: Try different cottages.

My husband and I have stayed at this beautiful place twice in five years. Once in the Italian and recently the French cottage...key here is "Romantic" cottage. SO much better than the motel/hotel experience! Clean, Quiet, and in a perfect location. It is different if you want the cook for you /make your bed 'stuff'...but you can get that anywhere - please fitness center do that when you get back relax and get out and walk/hike the surroundings of windsor and beautiful Sonoma! Heck we even hiked San Francisco:-) Comfort, views, peace, and kind "inn keepers" are all at Windrose. Take advantage of the knowledge about the area that Byron and Karen have - awesome recommendations. In fact take advantage of something a little different for your next getaway and experience a stay at the "cottages".

My husband and I needed a few days to relax and get away, and we hit the jackpot when a friend recommended the Windrose cottages. The property is tucked away amidst the farm land just a mile or two outside of Windsor, and what a perfect spot to rest and unwind. The brahman cattle, emus, ducks and canada geese in the surrounding pasture added just the right touch to make us feel like we were way out in the country, but it was just a quick hop into Windsor, or up to Healdsburg.

Karen and Byron are outstanding hosts, who go to great lengths to make sure their guests have everything they need for the perfect stay. The kitchen is fully stocked with all the dishes and utensils you'll need, right down to the salt and pepper, and saran wrap and foil. There was cereal, fruit and cheese, bread sticks, a loaf of delicious berry and nut bread, fruit juices and milk, and all the fixin's for waffles in the morning.

The entire place was immaculate, the bed was comfortable, and the towels and robes smelled fantastic. We stayed in the French Garden Cottage, and the patio with a nice big jacuzzi was the highlight of the 3 day/2 night stay. Though there are winetasting and dining experiences galore in the area, we headed out for Big John's Market in Healdsburg, and brought back enough fresh food to allow us to stay put in our comfy cottage for the duration, except for a beautiful drive up the Russian River, and a stop in Bodega Bay for some clam chowder.

As for one review complaining about having people coming to visit, we very much appreciated the fact that this place is made for a quiet, romantic get-away. We liked being able to leave the doors and windows open, wander around in our bathrobes, and feel like we had the place to ourselves. They let you know when you reserve a cottage that that's the way it is, and it's one of the reasons this place is so special. If you need anything, Karen and Byron are right there to see to your needs, but most everything you could possibly need is provided right there in your room. If you don't, you are left to your peace and quiet, without the noise of housekeeping and ice machines, and kids running in hallways.

We will definitely be back, and maybe this time we'll do some winetasting, and we will certainly stay longer. Two nights was not long enough.

We stayed at the English cottage for 1 week and loved every minute. The location was perfect to visit wineries, which we did of course :-) We would highly recommend these cottages. Both Karen and Byron were very friendly and helpful, we will be back!!

Incredibly close to Santa Rosa airport but away from the Windsor town core, we loved the bucolic, pastoral setting and attention to detail our little English Cottage offered. Plums runneth over on the tree just outside and the innkeepers welcomed us to as many as we could eat. Super clean bathroom (shower only), little grapes and cheese platter upon checkin in the room fridge, milk, coffee, ironing board/iron, nice TV, really everything you need plus the sanctity of complete quiet and privacy. We were in town for a wedding so didn't use the studio to its full potential but it's easily a place to stay for several nights and cook your own food (it's gas, too, even better!). There is free wifi and dedicated parking--total value and the rates compete or best any local hotel. The bed was incredibly comfy - just the right firmness. I will stay here again. The proximity to vineyards is...well...you're pretty much surrounded by them, and farms. Enjoy.

Room Tip: French Cottage has the jetted tub. If tubs don't matter, save your cash and get the English Cott...

We stayed at Windrose for our honeymoon a few years ago and decided to come back for our anniversary. We left the kids at home, turned off our phones, and enjoyed the quiet relaxation of a weekend away from reality! The owners were so helpful and you can tell that they love what they do. I was so glad to have all the things we needed for breakfast right in our cottage and we didn't have to go out to eat breakfast. The owners recommended some great restaurants in Healdsburg and we were able to wine taste right on the square for a few hours before dinner. It was nice to have our own private hottub too. Thanks again to the owners for their incredible hospitality.
