Not all timeshares are created equal. Differences show for example if you compare Marriott or Starwood developments with WorldMark. We just stayed 7 days at WorldMark's Windsor property and found that style and decor resemble more a cross between Holiday Inn Express and Extended Stay. When you know what to expect, the experience can still be a pleasant one. Windsor turns out to be one of the nicest WorldMark properties which has a lot to do with its location. Windsor is a charming little town in a beautiful part of Northern California. Hundreds of wineries are nearby and it is only a short drive to the coast or to San Francisco. There is a most beautiful golf course right across the street from the hotel. The property itself has two swimming pools, several hot tubs, arcade, recreation room and a business center with free computers and printers. The units (either 1, 2 or 3 bedrooms) spread out over several three-story buildings around the main pool and a few giant old oak trees. We stayed in a one bedroom unit on the 3rd floor of building 4. The unit had a surprisingly spacious living room (with Murphy bed), a small bedroom (with a King bed), bathroom, full size kitchen, breakfast area and patio. Furniture was of average quality. Sofa and chairs turned out to be very uncomfortable when using them for a longer period of time. Everything was clean except for the light colored carpet which had a lot of dirt spots and obviously was not taken care of properly. What really sets the living quarters apart from any of the before mentioned timeshares by Marriott and Starwood are the cheap looking cabinets and the quality of the bedding. If there was an interior decorator at work he or she was not very competent: Three different types of wood dont look good in the same room! There are also no drapes, only blinds which let the light shine into the bedroom day and night (outside lamps right next to the window). If you are not turned off by those things and stylish decorating is not one of your priorities you will feel at home here anyway. Service and receptionists were below average: uninformed, forgetfull and not very pleasant to deal with. When we checked out they wanted to charge us with an additional resort fee of about $ 50 but had to admit that they forgot to inform us at check-in. We refused to pay.
