“Beautiful Location..castle needs a bit more attention”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2011

Our travel agent recommended the castle and it sounded great with all the reviews etc. We had 2 children ages 7 & 8 and we stayed in one of the 2 bedroom apartments in the castle itself..not the separate accommodation at the base of the property. The greetings and service was great and very appreciative. The room well..view stunning off our deck...the room fittings very old which is ok but when door knobs fall off, can't get into room because old keys don't work, water pressure in shower terrible, bed bugs in children's beds (mattresses must be very old and musty)..my daughter was suffering for 1 week later due to the bites she got. Anyway the food was ok at restaurant but not being able to get breakfast was dissapointing. The property is beautiful to walk around and the pool great for kids. All up would not stay in the castle again unless some more maintenance is done.

Room Tip: Ask about how old the beds and if unclear maybe stay in the separate accomm at base of property. You...

Our party of 4 stayed at the estate for 7 days. We had a 2 bedroom apartment in one of the dwellings separate from the main castle. The ideal location would be inside the castle, AWAY from the road noise, however, as I am a heavy sleeper the traffic didn't bother me. FYI--furnishings were dated and the beds were extremely uncomfortable. That aside the views from the balcony aren't to be missed and we were only a 30 minute drive to Florence and an hour from Siena. The restaurant was on half staff so we ended up dining in the "bar area" instead of the main restaurant itself. Food was rather rustic, but palatable. The chef and waitress were both very nice, but spoke limited English. All in all we'd go back...but maybe pack a mattress pad or 5.

Room Tip: Ask for a room INSIDE the main castle.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Castello di Montegufoni. The property was truly an amazing castle. After reading a few of the reviews on TripAdvisor, we were somewhat skeptical, but listened to those that said it was amazing and we are so glad we did! We had an incredible stay. We weren't really expecting a lot for our accommodations based on reviews, but we were pleasantly surprised. We had a three bedroom, two bath guesthouse. The house was very clean and the kitchen was well equipped. And the patio, views and wine were great.
We made day trips to Florence, San Gimignano, Sienna, and Pisa. We dreaded making the trip into Florence based on the reviews we read on driving and parking in the city. But with a little research we found that traveling in daily was a breeze. We found that approximately 30 minutes from the castle, in Sandicci, is the terminal for the Tramvia, a metro rail type system that easily transported us to Florence in approximately 20 to 30 minutes depending on the time of day.

Stefania at the reception desk was so kind and helpful. She spoke very good English and helped several times with questions, directions and recommendations when we asked for them.

We loved Montegufoni and hope that we may be able to go back someday.

Room Tip: Although the Castle rooms are truly amazing, if you have problems negotiating stairs we recommend st...

We absolutely loved our stay in Castello di Montegufoni. The property was truly an amazing castle. After a few of the reviews on tripadvisor, we were somewhat skeptical -- but listened to those that said it was truly amazing...and so glad we did! We had an incredible stay. We were in Castello 1B where our family resided, and we were in Bastione also known as Nobile. The grounds were so well maintained, and the staff by the end of the week felt like family (especially the chef and Jarek!) We had our wedding on the property, and the staff went out of their way to make us comfortable, and easily accommodated our 30 person dinner requests! It was also a perfect launching position for easy travel to Florence, San Gimignano, Siena, local vineyards and great food! We just hope to return soon! Our only downside, was our bed was not super comfortable, and when we slept with the windows open, we had a few mosquito bites.....all to be expected though for an older castle, and open windows in late September!

Room Tip: Castello 1B and Nobile were wonderful -- both offered privacy and good bathrooms!

We rented the Montegufoni 7 for five nights during our honeymoon in Italy.
The castle is beautiful, with the view off the Chianti hills all around. You can easily reach Firenze, Sienna, Lucca etc.. from this place. There is a pool and lots of garden to wander around. There are also a lot of mosquitos, even in september!

Our room was extremely large with a big bedroom with frescos on the walls and a common room. It is equipped with all the ''hardware'' to cook but lacks things like salt, pepper, dish soap that we had to buy. The room was clean, the view wonderful.

We ate at the restaurant the last night, it costs 25 euro for a 4 course dinner and it is enough food for 2! The meal in itself was ok but I think you can get better in the villages around.

Overall, the surroundings are beautiful, the castle looks great but it is a little basic.

This place is amazing. The restaurant is excellent. You have to make a reservation as it is very small and intimate. The chef came out and had a lemon cello with us after dinner. It's really fun to explore the castle and the grounds around it. We had a great little suite with views of the vineyards. I would definitely return here in the future.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms are nice. Look at the website and choose

When we decided to get married in Italy we set about finding the perfect location for our family and friends, after a few nights browsing the net we discovered Castello Di Montegufoni, it's location, price and overall service were perfect for us, we set about booking and quickly became very comfortable dealing with Letezia and Stefania, both of whom are fantastic at their job. We visited the Castle in March and knew immediately it was the place for us, Because we had visited in march we waited for our friends and families comments once they arrived in June, they were all amazed at the place, the size, the quality of such an old building, the cleanliness everything was perfect. The first night we arrived, we didn't arrive till 11pm and to the castles credit they kept the restaurant open till late to serve pizza and beer to all the guests, nothing was ever a problem when dealing with the staff of Castello Di Montegufoni, they helped coordinate and organise all the different companies for our wedding and inturn became our wedding planners.

All the bedrooms are equally good in their own right, cool in the
summer so sleep was never a
problem, they were all clean and yes you may need some supplies during your stay but the local shop will delivery to the hotel if you fill out your request form. Our guests travelled to Florence, Siena, Pisa without any problems and sampled some of the local restaurants too.

The restaurant in the hotel is equally good, with fantastic Italian dishes served Daily and we were made very welcome by Fabio and his staff.

Overall this Castle can only be described as a dream of a place where you can travel back in history and sample the way of life whilst still having all the mod cons of toddy. We thank you Cosimo for a Perfect week and I am sure we will see you again soon
