Description: Fey Restaurant is the heart and gem of it's owners, James and Han Ying. Fey, an acronym of it's well known Chinese name Fu En Yuan, has existed for more than 20 years in the Bay Area. Their reputation for purely authentic and taste bud popping Sichuan and Northern Chinese food is impeccable and a definite must try. Come in for your favorite luncheon special or even have a party in our beautiful and elegant VIP room (advanced bookings please!). We will also be bringing you a new specialty, Chinese Hotpot (Fey style of course!). Instead of sharing a large boiling pot with people around you, you will have the luxury of your own. Come on in and experience Chinese food with style. You won't regret it.

“Average food. Good service.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2013

The title of this review would be a good summary for my experience in Fey. They have a massive menu. Like 180and something options. You must wonder whether they can really cook well all those options. Fortunately they have marked the menu with some stars flagging the specialities which I guess it is what you should go for.

The restaurant is large and well decorated. I went on saturday night and there was not many people in which is usually not a good sign. The service I must say it was excellent. And done by genuine Chinese people ( the previous day I ate at a Japanese restaurant ran by Mexicans and the next day a French one also ran by Mexicans. Nothing wrong with Mexicans. I am hispanic too. But I prefer authentic things. ).

As per the food. It was ok. I ordered some shrimp+veg dumplings and were quite flavourless to be honest. Further examination showed classical mini frozen shrimps inside. Then had the Chicken Schezuan and that was better. Although I ordered it medium spicy and I thought the lady who attended me got confused because it really quite burnt my mouth, so that was kind of ruined as well. But the elements were eatable. Not bad. Not tasty either.

So well... I would probably come back again. The place is nice and people are nice too. But with not much expectations with the food.

“Magical”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

I looked up Fey because the name doesn't sound typically Asian. In the English dictionary at least, it means "something magical". Don't know what it means in Chinese. The flavors were fantastic/magical. Our friends ordered food that we had never had before -- pork knuckle and the fish soup with peppercorns and little red chiles floating on top were the standouts. Even with the chiles, the soup wasn't overwhelming - just delicious! The prices are reasonable, the parking lot is very small, the decor is modern, etc., etc. I would go back to try the specialties of the house.

“Fifth visit this year. Still the best, constant quality!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2013

A lot of restaurants around this area have their ups and downs for different times, but Fey has impressed me by not conforming to this trend. I brought a couple of my friends, one of which is from Sichuan area, and it seems that the restaurant gains his approval for its taste as well as authenticity.

My all-time favorite dish: Fried String Beans
Some other recommendations: Pork a-la Sichuan, Cold-dish Spicy Beef, Any sizzling dishes, Mapo tofu pork

In terms of service, the receptionist lady is always really polite and friendly. The same goes with most waiters with a few exceptions. I have never had any headache moments with anyone in this restaurant.
